Today I was walking with my wife in City Proper and a young women came up to me begging for money. Well, sometimes I put myself in there shoes for a moment and I give to them. This young women in particular opened up a small bag she was carrying. I saw a baby that was no older than one month stuffed inside the bag. I felt sick to my stomach when I saw this little infant inside. I felt myself turning red with anger. My wife made me shut up and move on. I was sooo angry I wanted to thrash out at everyone near me.
How can this be. I know I am not in that young womens shoes and have never experienced what she is probably going through but this was the straw that broke my back. I will never ever forget the site of this little baby stuffed in that bag. And what was worse for me...I COULD DO NOTHING.
God...please protect that little child...

When a man has a bit of fun he leaves behind some seed.
When a woman has some fun she ends up with a baby and a nightmare.
Soooo sad! But I would give her all I could afford.
If a young man begs - and a lot do - then I say 'Get a job' and they get nothing.

I'm with you there, menace, the baby is always a blessing; it's her circumstances she has to live with that can be the nightmare for her and for her child.
No wonder so many poor wee babies are left outside a church or police station when the mother cannot cope. I feel sad for them both.

Well, I hear what you are saying smacksman but no matter what the circumstance of how the seed was planted the baby is the innocent and still a miracle...never a nightmare.

Your story just makes me feel sick. I am in the States and here we could report something like that and something would be done to help that little baby. I just can't wrap my head around just why anyone would put a tiny baby in a bag, beg for money and expect sympathy and empathy. Are you sure it was a bag and not one of those quilted baby carriers?? If it were me, I would have not been able to stop from saying something to the woman and them the authorities.

Oh my...that is just horrible! I just spent the last few hours watching my little baby grandson and your story haunted me. I kept imagining being in this woman's spot. I have gone thru times in my life raising 4 kids on my own when we were dirt poor. I have a vivid imagination and in my wildest dreams, I can't imagine myself putting a baby in a bag and begging. That woman would not get my sympathy but the baby would...did...has. I see you are in the Phillipines but from the States. This has got to be tough on you...their ways are way different from here. I commend you for trying at least to help this little baby. You will have to keep us updated. Is this sort of stuff common over there? If so...it's just wrong.

I don't think it's more common here than anywhere else. But your right "It's Just Wrong"

When I say bag...it was a womens handbag. I will further investigate and learn the laws here on this type of behavior. Thanks...

Hi. menace730. Welcome to myLot! This is very sad, so darn sad!!! How can a mother put her own child into a small bag? It would have been better for her to have her baby cuddled up into her arms. Or she could at least had the baby in a car seat! What is wrong with her? Her baby needs to be able to breathe and to move around. Being cramped up inside of a bag, will surely suffocate her baby. I can understand you being mad. Even if I could do nothing, I would have reported this to the Child Services at the DSS.

There are a lot of beggars in Indonesia who are using a toddler to get people sympathy. Even I saw a two years old begged on the street where there are cars and motorbikes running. I would swear myself and tried hard to ignore the toddlers as I know that they were being used. I told them to stay safe on the side and prayed that God help them through this life.
It's always like a tug and war. One side we want to help but the other side we want to teach them to earn some money better than begging....

Yea its a sad world today. I live in Florida and almost every day somewhere I hear of someone in this state hurting or killing infants and young children.
When I see all these little unclean snotty nosed kids in Wic (when I went with my daughter when she first had her baby,) and the mother is pregnant YET AGAIN...I wonder why our country (remember we are the greatest country) allows all these women to keep having children so they can recieve all this aid from state and government.
I raised 5 children usually by myself and never knew what the word WIC or FOODSTAMPS meant.
My daughter in law has 5 children and gets 1,500.00 in food stamps
A friend of my daughters has 3 children and gets 1,200.00
I go to the grocery store do not have food stamps and my husband even with prices going up tells me my budget is 150.00 a week. that has to include toiletries, paper goods, my pet food for my cats. My husband is diabetic so I have to make sure he has 4 snacks a day between the 3 meals he has to eat.
the doctor has just put me on special foods because I get recurring UTI's, and we are somehow managing.
But if the government would take a long hard look at who gets all the handouts, and these women will not work except to get pregnant again so they get more aid, then maybe we would not be so strapped for money in our country.
I grew up knowing I had to work. But I sure don't know where our generation went wrong raising our kids because it seems a lot NOT ALL don't want a job.
I truly feel sorry for these little children.

Well i will just say 1 thing. The world has become very professional and so have beggars. They know simply begging wont fetch much attention and money hence they introduce the emotional aspect to it and in a way they just want to emotionally blackmail all their prospective customers like you and me. You just need to keep emotions calm. And the child they use does not belong to them, its just a instrument used by them to earn money.

That is absolutely terrible. I think I would be mad as well. In addition, my wife would make me probably call the police...child endangerment.

hello menace,
i too find that sick.
you could have called the police to arrest the woman who was using the baby just to be able to beg. it is a violation of law.
i remember when i was in high school i saw this lady walking with 3 tots in tow and a baby in her hands asking passersby for money because she needs it for bus transportation to agusan (i forgot now where she said she was going). of course i gave because i pitied the children. in my college days, again i saw the same lady with a baby asking for same reason. when i had my first child, my husband and i were at the street walking and then this lady was there again. when she approached us, my husband told her "i was still elementary when i saw you begging and now i am already a family man and you still havent reached your destination?" i guess the lady got embarrassed and she was so fast in getting away.

Hi menace.
The first thought that came to me when I first saw your discussion is, where are you? What city proper is this? Because I too became sick to my stomach.
Then when I looked at your pic and your profile location, I realize that you must be a foreigner living in that country. I could certainly understand the poverty. And it is refreshing to hear from an outsider, because it certainly looks like some people there don't care.
I too hope that they get help, and the child is protected.

Thanks for the response bounce. While living in USA i thought I understood poverty. I now understand why people say we have it made in the USA.I know we have poverty also but it's a much different level of poverty. Thanks for responding.

I can really understand how you felt. I too would feel the same if i saw that. In a bag? What a sick way to do that to a baby !
Here in the Philippines, there are beggars who carry their babies in a hammock like cloth put into a sling on their shoulders. At least , the baby can breath freely. Nonetheless, i am too, is bothered by those beggars using baby to beg. But there is nothing that i can do, except to report them to Social Welfare.

Yes simply, and this is what we must do...report them...maybe we can be heard if we make a loud enough noise.

Oh my,so many bad things can happen to that child like allergy and skin rashes or worst respiratory diseases from inhaling and rubbing with the bag material, cause for sure it's not hypo allergenic , the bag could get accidentally dropped or banged against a hard object, the child could suffocate,etc... who knows what other bad things could happen, yes sometimes we could all get so overwhelmed by anger, if it was reported to the police or proper authorities and proper investigation is done , the mother could lose custody of the child in favor of the department of Social Welfare.God help that child tsk tsk..

yes louievill...as far as I'm concerned, the mother should lose custody of the baby. Anything is better than the current conditions.

People are poor and not surprised that it has done so for money.
It is important that you are and whether a lesson.and here with us there are many such cases. So do not be surprised. But we can not do anything. But I also feel sorry when I saw what they do with their children.
Have a nice day!

hi nezavisima...I hear what you are saying but I cannot accept in my mind, that we can do nothing. I know I am helpless to do anything because I am an American here and I don't have the know how or connections...yet...but I will...I will
