Trying not to get depressed about my grades..

Last semester I earned a 4.0 GPA in my first 4 classes. I am now into my 3rd week of the second semester, and I'm trying to keep my 4.0 GPA, but my grades are starting to slip in one of my classes. I discovered today that I got 2 70's on work I did last week. So far my over all average in that class is a 90. It needs to be over a 95 to keep my 4.0 GPA. So it's a little depressing that I'm not doing as well as I wanted to. It just means I have to push myself harder to get better grades in the remainder of the class. How do you handle it when your grades start to slip? Do you let it get you down or does it motivate you to try harder? If you're currently a student (or just finished a school year as most of you have) how are your grades at the moment?

I think that you have been rushing this too. Make this your biggest priority outside of hubby and children. This is going to affect your earning power later in life so that you can achieve your dream of owning yor own home etc. You are gonna have to slow down Kat. Sacrifice now for success later.

I know, and I've realized that. I was just having an off week last week. This week should be better. I'm glad the over all grade is still a 90, so I can still improve it and get it back up to the grade I want it to be. I just have to work extra hard and making sure my grades stay up there for the rest of this session.

Well, it's been over 10 years since I've been in school. I didn't really worry much about my grades. I did pretty well I guess. The last two years I didn't do as well, I had a boyfriend and just didn't care lol. I don't think you should be stressing about it too much. I think you are amazing! I couldn't imagine dealing with 5 kids, keeping my house up, working and doing school! I have trouble keeping my house up with 3 kids and being home all day doing nothing lol. I blame facebook! ha ha :) Keep up the good work!

I don't want to get to a point of not caring.. unfortunately I think I am starting to feel that way a little bit.. that's why I rushed through these assignments and got a low score. I need to get the motivation back I had a few months ago.

For all my student years, I have never been an outstanding student so I don't really know what it feels like to be a student who achieve high grades consistently. And I see you earned a 4.0 GPA for your first 4 classes, so I assume you must be a very bright student then, congrats! For me, whenever I see my grades starting to slip up, I normally try to push myself to study even harder to get better grades again to pull my GPA up to a better level, but I constantly remind myself not to overdo it, especially after an ordeal I had to go through. There was once I was so disappointed with the results I had that I forced myself to burn the midnight oil every night to get better grades, and the conclusion was that I got sick for 2 weeks and had to miss classes because of that, making me fall back even further in my lessons. Hence, the moral of the story: try harder, but not TOO hard......

Well, it definitely is not going to be easy if you have to juggle between having to study, work and look after the family. But it seems you are a pretty organized person, so I'm sure you'll do fine. All the best, and I sincerely hope the grades improve!

I only take 2 classes at a time so the work load is not too much.. but each class is only 7.5 weeks long so it's a lot to cover in a short amount of time. I usually do not have too much trouble but between family and work I do try to get my school work done early and quickly to save time.. but rushing through it is what gets me the lower grades. I will have to try harder to take my time and do it right.

Don't beat yourself up about it! A 4.0 is amazing. I'm struggling just to keep up with a 3.7, and I can't imagine how hard it must be to keep a 4.0. Of course, I go to an arts school and I'm majoring in film... so we do short films, PSAs, and whatnot and have to get graded for them. When I get a grade that's low, then I just kinda try and shake it off and work harder to bring it up. A bad grade doesn't define you.

A bad grade might define you to a prospective employer.

I'd love to see said prospective employer go back to school and make a 4.0. Anyway, most employers these days pay more attention to experience rather than education.

When I was a student, I got easily discouraged by failing grades. When I see that my grades were slipping, I lose interest in the class altogether. But when I see that I consistently get high grades, all the more reasons that I want to study more, and top the class. I think my priorities in terms of grades were screwed up back then.

Our second semester had just finished last March. It was a tough semester for me because there are a lot of extra curricular activities that I was involved in. There was also a time that I was very much pressured in all the things that I do. What I did was, I tried not to put pressure more on myself. Because, it felt like the more pressured I was, the less productive in studying I've been. I have also sacrificed my most of my time to study. There was even a time when I have only slept for an hour or two. :) Just remember, relax!pressuring too much won't really help you. Also, if you extra time and you don't have to do anything, try to read your lessons in advance. You can also ask you're friends to have a study group. But be sure that you are really studying. :)

I think I am rushing too much and should slow down and take my time on my assignments.

here's a little advice. Actually, this is the advice that my boyfriend is giving me everytime i feel pressured with so many things. -Sort things out clearly -Point out the things that needs your attention immediately -Do it one at a time because if you multi-task, there is a tendency that your works are half done -If you feel very pressured already, stop. Take a deep breath and if you're ok, continue to work. -Have a goal.So that you feel inspired in everything that you do. :)

Sometimes a B that you work your rear off for is more satisfying than an A that came easily. I felt that way in my College Algebra class when I was in college. I had skipped a couple of grades in high school so I only had a year and a half in algebra before going to collge. And when I opened the College Algreba book my heart sank. And that semester when I got an A in my other stuff, but a B in College Algebra, I was pretty proud of it. And after that, every other course seemed like a breeze. I mean obviously it wasn't, but overcoming College Algebra was like my Mount Everest. By the way, I still don't use algebra in my daily life. I want my money back for that course!

I could remember way back in my school days, I too was always worried about grades. However, there are just times when I would just let go of what is happening because there's nothing more I can do about it. Surprisingly, whenever I would be frantic about exams and reports, those were the days when my grades would be lower but when I'm relaxed and just would let it be, those were the times when my grades were excellent. I think most students are really worried about things that they can't do anything about, however we should remember that it's not really about the grades but rather what matters is how you deal with each problem or task you are faced with. I'm not saying that grades are not important, it's also a good measure of how good you are in school but it's not everything. Try to think beyond the box and remember that most successful people don't really have good grades but they do have a lot of guts. Don't be depressed. Things happen for a reason, perhaps you just need to get into the subject more.

Don't beat yourself up! Many students just study, but you have a job and a family as well as your study. You're not far below where you need to be, and I'm sure you'll catch up.

I hope so.. but a couple more low grades will be enough to ensure I don't get my 4.0 for this semester.

When i was in college my average grade was always lower then a 3.0 and never any higher. It was hard and if your not into school like i was it was just to get it over a done with and graduate and get a college degree. All i wanted was the college degree and to get it over with. It was hard and i did everything online as i never went to a school and sat down in a class and i choose online because it was at my own time and not as boring and not having to listen to someone talk was great. School might be your think and good luck with your grades.

Regardless if the grades are good or bad.. it will be done when it's done. I can't rush through it because it will still be 5 full semesters.. so I might as well get the best grades I can get.

To begin with, working hard to maintain a grade is indeed a painstaking job to do for a student like you. Grades are just the manifestation of how a student has achieved in school. However, this should not be the sole purpose of a student why he/she is studying hard. Yes, grades are manifestations of one's achievement, yet, these are just figures. In the end, what will matter is the application. What is 100% if you cannot put into practice the theories learnt in the classroom? Nonetheless, the most essential things here is the application of the learning and not so much with the grades. Although, having good grades can somehow boost your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My grades suck at the moment but I am not discouraged.I still have all of my credits needed to be in the proper class for my age group.I am also not on academic probation.:)
