I don't think this can only be applied to all Filipino's..
as there is a saying that first impression lasts
it doesn't mean that i am judging a person by the looks, looks always is deceiving so better not judge anyone by the looks.
But,like what i wrote-that first impressions lasts...it is because sometimes looks follows what the real person inside that out-look.(external looks)
have a good day always

How about you, what is your first impression of a person?

Hello Sis, I believe you, this doesn't apply to all Filipinos and also, it doesn't always happen to all Filipinos. if they were to judge the book by it's cover, probably because they are so immature and it takes to be mature and regret the things that happened to them lately. but if they do, some probably regret it as us humans don't really know what we are doing until we realize our mistake.

Then I guess it's the majority of the Filipinos who are judging by appearance of a person.

Hello Gorilla,
Maybe with all of these bad happenings that has occurred in our country, it's really and risky to most Filipinos to look deep into those because they may not like what they find. usually they look deeper on to those who are good looking or simply get to know them just to realize they were being deceived.. Believe me, it's the reality of our damage culture or something that jsut come out of the oven.

At a sari-sari store, who can make an IOU more successfully to the female store keeper, a person who looks like a gang member but inside is a really nice person, or a good looking guy?

That kind of judgement is what we are talking about. Just the outside and not who the person is. you are one of the majority of Filipinos that judges the book by the cover. You are not alone in this. By the way I see it, it is not just some Filipinos but rather the majority of filipinos who are like this.

I think this is a universal trait among human beings. Filipinos, like any other human beings in this world, share this trait with other people who are breathing, living and practicing this precise trait.
I guess that sometimes this particular trait is predominant in Filipinos since we are so into appearance and we are an impressible people. We had been in the hands of three different foreign oppressors, all who said that we are practically inferior to their race. So, we grew thinking and believing that maybe, we are really are. And that continues to this day, even though we are technically independent and free from oppression and colonization.
I, as a human being, am prone to this trait. There are times that I do judge people by their appearance. This is like instinct and I know that other people do judge me by my appearance. It's a two way street between interaction of people. And I think it would be very bad judgement to assume that people shouldn't because it does happen almost in very instances. Personally, I think this instinctive trait is sometimes good - becuase as human, we finally learn about each other after first impressions.

I think it is the other way around. The Filipinos are judged by our present state of things...

Its a universal knowledge that good looking people tend to be favored easier, while not-so-good-looking ones have to work harder to get favored.
You dont have to single out Filipino as a race that also shows this social reality. Go to any European or Asean, or even in USA you will experience the same treatment.
That is why when you apply for work, you dresses up in your best attire and try to look as good and presentable as possible. The not-so-good-looking guy in the experiment could have been trusted more if he dressed up the same way as the good-looking guy. Instead, as you have pointed out, his attire is that of a gang-member (not really, just informal attire but hey I dont accuse you of judging him).

this applies not only to the Filipinos....
In the world of Pound for Pound Boxing.....
even Mexicans, Americans, Black Americans, Europeans....
they all judges too the looks by its appearance too....
they didn't know that their Congressman-to-be has a hidden IRON FIST
extreme judgement thrown by word of mouth before the fight.....
for a different forms of extreme judgement word of mouth voiced.....
but in the end of the boxing matches....
the current result is:
Banzai for Japan
Hep Hep Hurray in America
Hasta La Vista
Ole
but for the Philippines: MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS !!!!!
nyahahahahahaha
(only the Filipino who live(mabuhay) standing still inside the ring waiting for another pending matches-to-be)
