myLot User's Input Regarding Tasks
@GoAskAlice (5829)

We need your input, myLot! I know I asked this question several months ago, but I am curious again. We all know tasks have been around for awhile and I've noticed that not many users use tasks anymore. Why is that? Do you like tasks? Do you check tasks daily? Which tasks grab your attention? What would you change about tasks if you could? Are they user friendly? What can we do to the tasks and the task system to keep you coming back? All of you input will help! Please let me know your opinion.

Hi GoAskAlice
I use to check them out all the time and was always excited about the Sharonbucks and did well with those. In fact when I first signed up that was the only thing I did and was excited to be approved immediately.
I don't do very many these days when it comes to members because for a mere 1 - 2cents and then having done the task completely as asked to await 5 weeks to then be wrongfully rejected, makes no sense. It is situations like that, that has caused me to forget even looking.
Though it has only happened to me once it has happened to many members here. As for the one you have listed, I stopped downloading software to my system because there is only so many one's system can handle as this type of offer has been offered many times on other earning sites and I have removed them all.
What I would like to change is, and don't get me wrong the Admins ones are fast accepting and crediting, but the member ones take way too long for so little. I am a microworker on that site and not only does it pay more but I get my approvals with 1 - 2 days. Therefore, I can't wait 5 weeks for 1 cent. What I would change would be that since they are slow crediting gee a little quicker by the huge delay, I don't many like me bother to look anymore.

I should add that it is that delay that causes many not to check and perhaps miss the Admin ones.

"In fact when I first signed up that was the only thing I did"
Boy am I glad that those taks disappeared or many of us would never have had the chance to meet up with such a fine friend!

I don't check the Tasks at all regularly but when I do, I generally see tasks for a few cents only and those are generally ones which involve signing up to a site or 'liking' something on Facebook. Many of them, I feel, are badly described and formatted. I never look twice at a task which says 'Go to this link' and gives an obfuscated link without saying what it is.
I would like to see tasks better managed by MyLot. I think that each one should go through an approval process before it is posted (to avoid violations and to make some of them clearer).
There seems to have been problems for a few people where they have done the task and have not heard back from or been able to contact the Task Owner. Automatically connecting Task Owner and worker (preferably on a separate list to the Friends list) at least until the task is completed might go some way towards solving this problem.
A specific 'Contact' link for problems related to tasks (rather than the general contact link at the bottom of the page) might give people more confidence that MyLot actually takes an active interest in Tasks. At present, the whole system appears to be left largely to run itself as far as moderating goes!

I agree with you on the e-mail issue, Owl. I also do not like the tasks that want you to "like" something on Facebook, especially since I am not a member there. You stated in a previous comment about downloading things, and I will not do that either, especially not for a few cents when it could potentially wreck my computer, which would cost hundreds of dollars to fix.

Thanks, owlwings! This is great information. I see many users complain about most of these task issues as well, so you are right! myLot is always curious to know how to make this site better and it all starts with users like you!

Alex, I have checked out the tasks, but never done one because I never seem to have the time. I noticed that Diana mentioned something about reporting some tasks, so I guess before I do one, (I really want to get involved, but school started back up before I knew it, but I do want to try and see how I do) what should I look out for if one needs to be reported???? Or should I take the easy route and stick with the Sharon Bucks, because I heard many people who like doing these..

Thanks Diana, but if you saw all my bookmarks, you'd know why it is best to have something sent to my inbox..lol Besides, I'd probably forget to check, and I'd probably forget to come here if I didn't get notifications.. But I will study the link on tasks, because if I end up with a break between assignments, this might be something I can do...

I see in your other comment that you have subscribed to the Digest in an attempt to keep up with Alex. That won't work because he rarely participates in the topics that are there.
I can understand that you have lot of bookmarks so maybe you should creat some folders for the important links? One just for myLot for example?

Carmela you can see what Alex is up to by checking his activty here daily:
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2585167.aspx
I suggest that you bookmark his profile.
You can see which tasks are violations here under:

Hi GAA!
I check the tasks daily to see what is going on there.
I usually find some that I report and occasionally one that I will complete - a post on a blog, a 'like-type' task, or an easy review. The writing tasks were not for me and I willingly left them for others.
I know that i have many friends here who did the Sharonbucks tasks and if I see them then I let them know that they are there.
I have created tasks too and both when I completed and when I created tasks I have had nothing negative to report.

Thanks for the input mysdianait. I do notice that there are a handful of tasks right now that look relatively easy. And you are right, SharonBucks tasks are always a hit!

p.s.
As you have no friends here, unless you send and Alert, very few Lotters will be aware of this topic.

Apart from the SB tasks, there's no point for a lot of us. 0.03 for installing an app or typing a review is rubbish ! At present I'm too busy with other work to do tasks here, but I won't bother for less than a dollar.

I remember getting excited doing tasks when I was a newbie here. There were a few things I could do, which I did and credit for.
Then a few weeks past, I couldn't get qualified to do any tasks. Some of the listed ones I was doubtful if it were legitimate. So, I didn't bothered anymore.
If there were something new, then maybe I would revisit it again.

Those things still take time though - 2c isn't enough. When we do discussions here, we don't mind doing them for a couple of cents because we enjoy it, and can pick and choose the subject matter. But tasks are like "work" - and no-one works for a dollar a week!

Hi GAA.
I guess I would do any of these tasks. It's just that for users who are not-so-new like me, we tend to forget that there are other (earning) opportunities, like the tasks. It would be great to get reminders once in a while, like those notices when there are some changes on the site.

Thanks, bounce58! I do see "comment type" tasks, "friend me" type tasks, "positive comment type" tasks, and "downloading type" tasks? Are any of these tasks that you would complete? Why or why not? These seem fairly easy to me for a bit of extra money. I know I'm asking a ton of questions, I am just curious on everyone's opinion on tasks.

What can we do to the tasks and the task system to keep you coming back?
An idea which has occurred to me subsequently is to allow the transfer of MyLot earnings directly from the Earnings account to the Tasks account. Provided that it satisfied the regulations, this might be of benefit to users who cannot be paid through PayPal because of legal restrictions.
See this discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2531149.aspx for more detail.

It's just not what I'm here for. I like the discussions... I only did one task ever and that was as a favor for a friend.
Although... I do like surveys, and if I knew that surveys were out there as tasks, I'd make a point of looking for them.

Hey that did not occur to me, but you are right! As a survey taker myself that would be a nice avenue and there are a lot of survey takers here also.

Although I have done a few tasks, I don't check them very often. Most of them want you to join a site and I don't have time for that any more. The ones I liked best were the ones where they wanted you to put something on Craigslist or just go to a site and make a comment or do something simple. I don't want to write an article like some tasks ask for because I don't know much about the topics. I do that with discussions so why would I want to do it as a task? As far as what can be done to the task system, if you make them a little easier or less time consuming I might be more inclined to participate again. I have only seen a couple since I became active again this year that were at all interesting to me. I will check them out again to see if there is anything that catches my fancy.

I haven't even looked this year. I think it was a year or two ago (when I was last active before this year) that I did those. I think I looked in there maybe two or three times this year and only found a couple of tasks that even attracted my attention.

I used to do tasks all the time. In fact, when I first started on here I rarely posted but I did a lot of tasks. I had some bad experiences doing the tasks, because one of the task creators did not specify the parameters of the task properly, and I had many of my tasks from this person rejected, which not only negatively affected my stats but also caused me to get banned from doing those tasks. After some interaction with the task creator we got the issue straightened out, and I was able to complete further tasks from this creator and they were approved. Still, this incident taught me to be cautious at first when accepting tasks, even when the instructions seem straight-forward, and wait to see if a few of the tasks get approved before I continue to do them as I do not want further misunderstandings.
Many of the tasks that I used to do are not available any more. I have tried a few new ones, especially the SharonBucks ones, because they are highly rated by other users. I had problems with these as well, though, because my tasks were pending for several months, and I had to use the "contact" form twice before I finally had my tasks approved, which did not make me want to do any more of them. The last task that I had pending was finally approved after a whole year ... way too long to wait for just $.05 in my opinion.

After feeding us with a gourmet meal you now want us to live on one cent and such tasks! Blame it on Sharon Bucks. I am missing her. I have tackled countless of her tasks and it was a joy doing them. But she is nowhere to be seen. I just saw a task where the task creator wants a 500 word article for a payment of 80 cents. Sharon Bucks paid 4 dollars for a 400 words task. I am waiting for Sharon Bucks.

One other important point that I wish to make is about the timing of sharon bucks tasks. They are normally seen when India is sleeping and since she gives only 10 hours most of those tasks cannot be completed. . If she can give atleast 24 hours then there are better chances for everyone to grab them.

I dont like tasks, they remind me of my boss lol.
Id much rather you hiked up the pay for discussions instead of have us do tasks.
Thats my opinion on that matter and might not be same for others...but thanks for asking!

LOL. I understand that MagicalBubbles. Thanks for your opinion. For now, discussions will probably stay the same, but tasks are always a way to add some extra earnings to the mix. I appreciate your input!

I think what you need to do is to impose a min payout for the tasks .Like 5 cents for an easy one and 10 cents for a task that requires the user to sign up on a website. If you go there and take a look there are tasks that will pay you one cent and that`s an abuse .You can`t let people abusing others just because they can find poor people here ready to do a task even for a cent.

I had been thinking about looking this month, but I am involved in a lot of sites, and many of them have tasks. Some of them are definitely not worth the money, either. I feel that in general, task sites like Microworkers are the best places to do tasks. It is kind of like my husband says "Why order chicken in a steak house?". MyLot is an excellent "steak house" and I will not settle for anything less than steak. It is the best for discussions and I will continue to participate in discussions. I may look at the tasks, but if they involve downloads, sign ups and looking at links, I probably will not undertake them.

Among all thed tasks, writing articles is much worth forfinding a platform to display one's worth and find a payment that is satisfactory. Earlier a few more use to provide tasks for writing articles and they used to pay 50 cents or 100 cents for 300 or 400 words. Then those ids got banned I suppose. At present there are a couple of tasks for writing articles. it is a tough work but one can enjoy with research work and evn learn a lot for these tasks for writing articles are widely informative. One is not able to sum them up up to 300 words. The article goes beyond 300 words. The task for writing articles for 60 cents too is very tough and it needs a lor of research work. But the payment oùis not satisfactory so one opts for the better payment task. If it is for 60 cents then one can write come discussions and comments and earn that much of amount within two or three days. There are some tasks asking to comment in minimum 3 setences with good English. This is really a training how to review an article. Besides the link leads us to very valuable websites, articles where we can get a lot of knowledge. The mylot tasks are informative, giving an opportunity to earn with satisfaction as well as they train us.
Regarding the Sharon bucks, they appear and vanish within early few minutes. But everybody do not have the chance because of its timings that they appear.

Some of the writing tasks I'm up for, but if it''s going to pay like 3cents for an hour of writing, and then the task maker is going to publish the writing somewhere else claiming credit...it's not much incentive.
I don't mind the commenting tasks, but I'm not going to do any of the "like this on facebook" style, because my facebook is private and I don't want it filled with notifications from some strange page I liked.

Thanks for starting the discussion.
For me I like sign up task, small writing, and task related to forums. But even if these kind of tasks are there I will not do those tasks if the task creator only paying $0.01.
Thanks once again.

Hi Alice,
I'm new here and at the moment I'm concentrating on navigating the mylot discussion side of things. I think once my rating has gone up I might attempt one of the tasks. But as I don't have as much time as some of the other users it seems to make more sense to concentrate on one thing at a time.
