Are we going to produce more children just to follow what the Bible says (Genesis 1:28)? What if the parents can't afford to support the needs of their children? Are they oblige to produce more just to follow what the Bible says? Is subduing population against God's will? Share your opinion? Mobhomeir

A number of interpretations can be given on this passage. The most common idea would be to physically multiply in number. Couples get married and produce children. Personally, I think God wants us to nurture life, not just quantity but quality. If a couple produces more mouths to feed than can be fed, are they nurturing life or killing the children of hunger?

with that line from the bible I think people are not really literally obliged to do such,it doesn't say or require a specific no. of children a family must produce but on the practical side I guess it should be more for a parent to think about and to have a responsible parenthood attitude or to have a planning strategy before having a family-to produce only this/these no. of children that he thinks he'd be capable to giving a good future.

hi, why not if we can feed them and give them an education and good life, but it could be never if you are not rich and dont have any income,so why do we need to multiply if we cant support the needs of children.we need to be practical now a days to avoid poverty.

poverty and population is not the problem, it the the government corruption and the lack of job opportunities. a father of 5 for example is given the chance to have a free training and have a good job, then he will be able to provide the needs of his family. he will be able to put his children to school. and in the future, his 5 children will finish school in their own degrees and professions. they will be able to have a good as well and perhaps put up their own company and give more job opportunities to others. now what is our country now?? tons of graduate of nursing and other good courses are jobless due to the lack of job opportunity. the poor just multiply because the government are not organizing programs to teach them some work. perhaps they can learn how to make certain products that can be sold in the other countries. it is not us - the ordinary people - who can answer this poverty problem. it is the powerful government.

It has nothing to do with governments. It's simple math. The world can only support so many people and there is only so many places those people can live. When the space runs out, that's it.

In the situation that I am in. I don't think a child could help. I can barely pay the bills, and get foood. Having a child changes more than a person's behavior, psyche, and etc... The child changes the lives, needs more than food, electric, roof over their heads, they need the security, of parents, finiancial, ethical. I try to live the way the bible states, but this is an new era, generation. I don't think that if a couple has a resources to take care of a child, find a couple who can. DON"T Have kids, if your not willing to take a responbility to nourish them, love them, protect them, and trust them.

I understand what you mean my friend. I my country there are more more who are less fortunate than capable of nurturing their children completely. The government find solutions to cut it off even in a small way and this reproductive bill passed. Some said it's un-Godly and some likes it. In my point, how can you afford to raise more children if you can even take care a single one, are you going to add more so you can just follow what the bible says "go to the world and multiply"? Thanks for responding my friend.. Mobhomeir here..

It always sounded to me like a doctrine to produce more followers than any other faith, in order to outnumber them:) talk about we shall overcome lol Common sense should prevail, after all what faith is worth following if it is unforgiving?

I really hope people use their brains instead of following that. If people blindly followed that, then the world would be over populated even more then it is now. When that was written the world didn't have as many people in it so I'm guessing they wanted people to have as many kids as they could. Also, children sometimes didn't make it so you had to have more to have a better chance of them surviving. I've thought that people should only have 2 kids. That way they will replace you and your spouse when you die. Even doing that the world will still get over populated because people are living longer.

I think that particular book was written when the world needed to be populated. This is a different time. I don't think it really applies now. That part of the bible, in my opinion, is just a means of understanding how creation began and what happened there of.

People should plan their family and bear only the number of children that they can support. I am proud that our country's president has supported this view and is making a stand about it. There is too much poverty because of unwise family planning. it high time that we do something about it.

In my opinion, I think there's already enough of us that if we keep on multiplying.... there will be no more space for each and everyone of us. I'm not saying I do not have faith in God. This is just my point of view regarding that matter. Happy mylotting!

For me, don't produce a child if you think you are not financially, emotionally and physically ready for it. God will understand .

I think people who are poor and yet have many children are irresponsible;they should think twice before deciding to have another baby, but I suppose many of them don't even think before doing it.There are so many means of information today that it's very hard to believe people don't know how to protect themselves, and yet this what happens because there's still a lot of poverty and ignorance in the world.I don't think it's God's will to let people have lots of children without having the means to offer them a normal childhood.

You appear to be from Philiphines. Probably you are from islam. Adopting family planning measures is advisable as otherwise the population of the world will reach a figure at which time there may not be sufficient food for people. I suggest each couple can aspire to have one kid. Beyond that it is a luxury nowadays. During our younger days (40 years ago) it was considered ideal to have two. Now it is ONE and ONE. Hope u would have understood my opinion.

Honestly, I am a PRO to RH Bill here in Philippines.. I think if we will follow that line in the Bible, many countries including Philippines will be more poor! We have a lot of population now, but only few has job that can support the family.. I think God will understand this.. and I hope the critics will understand this!

I truly believe, this is in relation to the controversial RH Bill which is currently the subject of debate in the plenary. I am not a catholic but I believe in the verse. Thus, I support the said bill. And more, I believe that God said that because the world is just new and He only wanted to produce more people to care for this world. But that I also believe, do not apply in these times where the world is so populated and poverty is high.

We don't need to follow that commandments of God, friend. Because that particular verse is apply only in the time of adam and eve...till the time of moses. Because human being then is not small and not enough to live the earth. If you continue to read the verse. There is a continuation that God, said subdue it or prevent it...meaning our dear God. Will also commanded us to prevent the growing population due to economic needs...

I don't think it would be God's will for children to starve or not be taken care of. Some people cannot afford or want children. If that is the case, then they shouldn't have any.

Yes, that biblical passage is confusing to me now too... But maybe God would understand if we try to control the population becasue if we continue to multiply but then the parents can't support the kids anymore- then they'd just go hungry and die..

hello, If they already have enough children well I think that is enough because more children are really difficult to handle nowadays. So, it doesn't mean that you didn't follow the bible says but just being practical because people are having a hard time to live now.
