I am currently using a Canon compact DC and my friend lent me her Canon 450D with kit lens. I am planning to buy a camera in between that allows me to take it out easily (i mean not quite large and heavy) and take good quality pictures.
Thus I am considering Canon G12, Sony NEX-5, Panaconic LX-5 & GF2. I tried my friends' NEX-5, LX3 & GF2.
NEX is good in general but nor perform well in high ISO. And also the 18-200 lens is quite out of balance of the body itself.
LX3 is good also.
GF2? I personally think it's quite heavy even just with the standard lens. But my friends' one only has Japanese manu so i couldn't try much.
G12? I didn't have the chance to try, but the comment is good though.
So if you are happen to be a fan of photography. Please share your thoughts with me.
Thanks a lot

Hello,
From these cameras i will choose the NEX. He has the larger sensor, and you can change lens. The Sony has 25 focus points, and smallest crop factor - 1.5x, you can use remote control (optional), on continuous drive you have up to 7 fps (like Canon 7D), but honestly i don`t know how many frames you got on 7 fps. I am checking this info from here = http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=canon_g12&products=sony_nex5&products=panasonic_dmclx5&products=panasonic_dmcgf2
You may find a in depth review on this site for all cameras.
Now i have Olypmus E-420 and i am pleased. Before i had Canon SX10 IS, and Canon A460. The difference is hugeeeee. Strongly recommend you to get the NEX, but in the worst case Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2.
If you want i can send you samples from my cameras to see yourself.
Best Regards !

NEX 5's price makes me hesitates, esp. the 18-200mm lens. If i want to get all the lenses,it will take me a long time to save money. This budget can also help me to get a Canon Rebel T2i (550D) which received quite good comment. I also think that DSLR is quite good.
Ah... what a young girl I am with limited budget...
Thanks for the advice. We can discuss more about photography. I am a beginner though.
Have a nice day.

Hello mrvenom, you also brought me to another question is that whether i want to invest on DSLR system.
The reason why i want to buy one of the above mentioned cameras is that i want to have a small but good one that can be easily taken out for capturing pictures.
It's because of the experience I had. I took the Canon 450D with kit lens and the compact DC out with my friend to Macau. It's quite crowded and I don't have much time to adjust my DSLR. Besides, the kit lens is also a limit. And thanks to the DC, we succeeded in getting many good pictures. After that trip, I began to think about buying a highend DC or the mirrorless camera.
And i found that i am more interested in landscapes and animals instead of people. Thus i am a fan of wide angle lens and large diaphragm. I guessed that's what beginner will love.

Well it is your choice. The Canon is very good decision. Don`t worry for the budget, choose one and slowly collect money. My camera the Olympus E-420, has two kit lens 14-42 and 45-150. For more purpose i use old German, Russian and Japan lens like Gelios, Soligor and etc. For me the photography is expensive too. Your choice of 18-200 is very good because you don`t have to change lens for 18mm or 200mm like i am doing. Tell me for what purpose you buy the camera? What you will going to shot ? People, landscapes, animals, portraits ?
Best Regards !

Hi I'm currently using Lumix LX5. And I am satisfied with their features. :D
I sold my Nikon d200 with 35mm lens and bought the Lumix Lx5, it was my little one (i'm 7 months preggy) who is the biggest reason why I decided to sell my DLSR and buy a compact camera.
I don't think that this is a downgrade from my previous camera; it is just being practical to have a compact and user-friendly camera rather than looking up for good setting every time I wanted to take a photo.
I'm a big fan of photography but I think it is really not for me. ;p
just sharing! ;p

Hello eneria04. Thanks for shring at first.
I quite agree with you photography is all about keeping memory of life, not about the gear that we use. Compared to DSLR, DC makes photography easier & more convenient. That's why I was thinking about buying a high-end DC. I can easily bring DC along & capture what I want. And the end of the day, I can get many photos. Among them, I belive some are beautiful & touching.
Have blessed days & enjoy taking photos of little one later ^^

Yeah, you are right. The Canon G series has been receiving good comments & is the best companion of DSLR.
One thing about the LX5 that attracts me is it has many filter options though.

I will recomend you Canon in any ways. I think its the best choose, Sony is good to, the price is lower but also the quality. About Panasonic i don`t know, I never own Panasonic camera, but I think you can`t compare with Canon. About lens I recomend you to use only original ones and try to find with metal rim, not plastic.

Ican see Canon earn quite a good reputation here.
After this discussion, I probably will go for Canon G12 first. And DSLR system is the later step.

I would recommend the canon G12 because it is a professional compact camera. This means it is used by professional minus the weight. =) hope this help..
Plus.. I discourage you to buy NEX-5 due to the poor user-friendliness of the device..
