How is trash disposal in your place?

Proper trash disposal is a problem that has plagued us ever since we moved in our subdivision. Well not just in our subdivision but the whole city. The reason why our city was easily flooded in 2009 was not because the culverts were small and that water overflowed but because they were already filled with trash in the first place. It was only then that people took action. In our subdivision we've tried a lot of things. Big drums were placed in different places of the district. But it didn't last long because some people steal these drums. Probably sells it to junk for a quick cash. We've also tried segregating trash placed it in one spot and the garbage truck would just take it away but that didn't take long. People got lazy and started to dump their trash in anywhere again. I've noticed kids going house to house to take out the trash for a fee, I was impressed. Until I found out where they dumped it. They just threw trash near abandoned houses that have tall grasses. WT_!!! In April of 2001, I was relieved to see that garbage trucks are now rounding garbage house to house once a week. It went well for a month until they stopped coming for reasons I don't know why. Right now where back from the start, no place for a proper trash disposal. When is this going to end?

The garbage truck in our area collects garbage at least twice a week. And there is a scheduled day for the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. The garbage collectors will not take the trash of those who do not follow the correct schedule and segregation. They will leave the trash and place penalties to whoever owns it. My neighbor was once penalized for this. Too bad, she placed an electric bill with her name and address in her unsegregated trash that is why the waste management authorities were able to track her down. That should serve as a lesson for her.

A system that works and a strict enforcement of it, Wow, you have a very good place there (in terms of trash disposal.

My place wasn't really visited by the city's disposing crew so we had been left to own devices regarding our trash. What we do in a certain point of time (read: when our garbage bins are full) is to make a compost or bury the garbage (to be precise, the biodegradable ones) in our private lot. Sometimes, we even burn the garbage if we cannot recycle the trash or give it to the junkyard for extra cash. That's what have been doing for years and I guess it works so far.

We've also tried that route. Unfortunately from time to time, no one has the time burn them anymore that's why some people went back to their old habits of throwing anywhere.

I am lucky to be part of the city that have a regular collection of garbage. It is everyday at 6:00 am. The downpart of it is that I am or anyone in the family must be up before 6:00 am to prepare our trash. The barangay also don't allow us to leave our trash the night before at the side street. Anyhow, I am thankful that I belong to a city that knows how waste management.

Wow, that's nice. I don't really care if I have to wake up as early as 6 or even 4 a.m. as long as the garbage is well taken care of. You're really lucky.

It is Picked Up Twice a Week here in the City of New York in my Area. You would Put Put the Recycled Material in clear Bags with the Garbage once a Week. Yes the Workers can go on Strike at it is Unionized in many Countries. No Pick Up until a Contract is Agreed upon and Signed

New York is already a very systematic city unlike ours. I guess enforcement also has something to do with it.

The City Environment and Natural Resources or CENRO in our city has implemented the segregation of waste in both commercial establishments and residences. Those who will violate this are made to fine from 500 pesos to 5,000 pesos. I think this is a very great move since every barangay in the city are following this by segregating the biodegradable from non-biodegradable. We are following this since our garbage if not properly segregated will not be collected and we will be fined at the same time. My children also knew about this since they were taught in school where to throw their garbage properly and they can already distinguish biodegradable from non-biodegradable. We have a small garden in our yard where we plant vegetables and other herbs and we made a small compost pit so that we will only dispose of for collection those plastics garbage. I think that each and every one of us can make a big difference if we do our part in segregating our waste.

Trash disposal? Everything in my city is still done manually except that a motorized vehicle (Truck) is used for transportation. It's done in the most unhygienic manner. The trucks even convey the dirties during day time. It's horrible!

Right now, our city is having a stricter policy on trash disposal. The city government demand every household to segregate and they have this "no segregation, no collection" policy now and if we don't comply we will fined. They also have a regular schedule for garbage collection different days for biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. They also gave some guidelines on how to segregate our trash and other guidelines related to their new policies. I think its a great idea and I wonder why they just do such thing...huh! I hope for the strict implementation of this in our city and bring great results... Some discipline and cooperation will bring a lot of improvements...

Here in Valenzuela, we have a very good waste disposal. Garbage men come regularly to collect garbage and we have street sweepers who maintained clean streets and alleys. Our mayor is very strict about waste disposal and have strict health policy even in stray animals. We love him for these reasons!

I really don't know too! I think it is time people treat the issue on proper garbage disposal seriously specially in our country. Most western countries segregate their waste. Why can't we? Our garbage trucks used to collect our trash twice a week, then became one, then suddenly they come not on schedule anymore. We try to segregate at home, all biodegradables are put in a pit at the back of our house. In some barangays, non-biodegrable trash are collected and used to produce blocks used as decorative street pavements. The barangay actually has a source of income. If they can do it, why can't all barangays adopt such way. I think it is a very good idea.

Around here, the city garbage truck comes by once a week. There was a time when they stopped coming, I don't know why, and people had to resort to burning their trash which is supposedly not allowed anymore because of the smoke. The bigger problem that I see is that from the garbage truck, it is brought to a dump site. I don't know why people still prefer dump sites instead of trying to develop recycling plants and such. I think the latter will be better for the environment and will also open job opportunities.

You are in Philipines. In Chennai, India we have a system wherein garbage is thrown by house holders into a dustbin box and the corporation removes it every day twice. These are dumped outside the city and then burnt periodically. Near that place it causes pollution. You will have to take up with your local authorities about garbage disposal and insist that they should not be put in a way it causes floods but disposed off properly. have a good day.

Hi dranred, It is really good that garbage trucks are now roaming around our city! The facility here are strict! They will not collect garbage that are not properly segregated.. The purpose of this is obvious.. The one that are able to use, they will recycle it! And the ones that can be use for plants.. I don't know where others go as of now!
