I am not in Venice but I am in Italy, a bit further west. I have been to and stayed in Venice four times in the last few years and I can absolutely understand your wish to go there. It is beautiful and holds some sort of magic about it! I suggest that you go outside the holiday season and not around a public Italian holiday because it is filled with tourists at those times and the prices are higher.
