Morals answer problems we face in life. Morals are written down. They are defined answers to defined problems. Examples that come to mind are - Stealing is immoral. Adultery is immoral, killing another person is immoral. When people observe morals there will be stability in all aspects.
Ethics is an approach, a method of making decisions. It is about being aware of the outcome of our decisions, good and bad.
So, morality is a set of values that are applied, ethics is a way to solve something at we understand it. Ethics can devlop morals and as the situation changes ethics can evolove morals.

I thought morality was more to do with what society believed was right or wrong but ethics was more of a personal sense of right and wrong and how we live our life in a way that we believe to be good and moral.

Thanks for clearing that up. To tell you the truth, I sometimes get confused with the two but then I think that they should always be considered in any actions or decisions we are to take. No matter what happens, our morals are there as our guidelines in making tough decisions in life and thinking of how this affects how others see our actions as categorized whether they're right or wrong. With ethics, its role is more on how we deal with people, how we act, etiquette and attitude towards people around us or with a given situation. For me, these two should always work hand in hand.
