This discussion was prompted by the ongoing debate regarding the controversial Reproductive Health building. The person in question, Manny Pacquiao, is the pound for pound boxing extraordinaire and also represents Saranganni in the Lower House or the Congress. Pacman, as he was often called, has expressed his support as a pro-life in the side of the debate. Other political figures think that he should not join the debate because the issue is a very controversial, complex and in some sense, very sensitive. The author of this discussion recognizes Pacquiao's right to freedom of expression and does not judge him any less as any Filipino citizen. Since Pacman is a new congressman, what do you think of his work so far?

Pacquiao is definitely not for politics. I tell you that. He may have good intentions for the sake of the country, but politics isn't for him. There are several issues involved in politics wherein fists won't be of any helped. As a politician, one must have several experiences within this area. Pacquiao might just be a small fly in politics that'll be too easy to manipulate especially with the people around him who are mostly very educated adn has made a lot of accomplishments. I think that Pacquiao doesn't have what it takes to debate with those experienced people. He will surely be defeated.

Of course, he has what it takes, if only he took one step at a time. he could have taken the executive position first because taking the grand stand on the legislative position like being a congressman. he should have tried Barangay Chairman or Councilor for starters. he used his own popularity just to climb the ladder like all the others. so what if your popular but that does it mean they will listen to you, specially the tax payers

I am not shocked if a professional boxer like Manny Pacquiao entered unto the Politics..... since here in Philippines, it is here very common for a: 1. Basketball superstar to join politics..... 2. Bold Superstar to join politics.... 3. Showbiz and Movie Artist to join politics.... 4. Other sports masters who join politics.... they are all join into politics that runs and wins as a vice and even president soon.... isn't just only boxer.... i am never shocked.....

Hello Jeanne, Isn't this very very and totally obvious? the guy didn't even consider having a low-executive position first before taking into the big step. i remember when he ran for congress in his own province in General Santos and lost.Green in politics?!! even the veterans have a hard time debating on this issue for years, how on earth can have a greater stand against the RH when his wife is also using contraceptives.. i know he has the right and he's a congressman but really his charismatic skills in these issue is highly not recommended.but good luck to him.

I didn't get to hear Congressman Pacquiao's entire debate with this bulk of a mass Lagman, but with the bits of news that was alloted to Manny, I think he has very good and sound points. I think Manny Pacquiao is a very intelligent man. I presume that since he hails from the south, he speaks 3 languages. He has taken Political Science. He has been given an Honoris Causa by a university. He is a genuine philanthropist, caring for many deprived Filipinos no other politician had ever done. What is politics? Perhaps this time, politics must change color appropriate for Pacqhiao.

We all try to find our own place under the sun. Perhaps, we think that a place fit for Manny Pacquiao is the boxing ring. But we are not him, we have no idea how life was like for Manny. Being the world renowned boxer may have made him a billionaire but who knows how he feels deep down inside. If a person is really happy, he'll find contentment. I don't see that in him. He pushes himself, sometimes even beyond his limits. And entering politics is one of them. Maybe it's frustrating to have lots of money but you find yourself lacking. Then you hear these people saying that fist fighting is the only thing you can be good at. Maybe, this is Manny's driving force. The more people criticize him, the more he is motivated to prove himself. And the vultures around him, well, I guess, even if Manny himself drives them away, they will still be around, because that's what vultures are. They stay where they can live comfortably. Besides, good and nice people won't really linger around him because they are scared to be associated with the vultures. So Manny is left alone in the hands of those who advise him to do things which will make him powerful in the eyes of the people. And that's politics. Maybe he entered politics to gain power and respect. But those who encourage him to do so, did it so they can use his position to their advantage. Poor Manny. Pacquiao still has a lot to learn. He can't fight his battle this early and with so little preparation. Go back to school, polish your English and diction, study the constitution ( no crash courses please, Filipinos will not accept you that way ), go to Harvard or Yale, earn your doctorate degree in law, then come back and run as chairman in your Barangay, and make sure that the next time you do your privilege speech, you do it spontaneously because Filipinos will judge you when they see you reading it and you buckle a lot.
