i was searching the internet for some article and I found this interesting article in yahoo that sitting increases risk of death up to 40%. As soon as we sit, electrical activity in the leg muscle shuts off, calorie burning drops to 1 per minute and enzymes that help break down fat drops 90%. Totally shocking to me. Lately, half of my day, I just sit down, go to my PTC site, watch TV and i didn't know it's taking a toll on my health. Knowing this, I would like to try to jog (once a day if i can) or try to stand as much as possible. How about you? Do you sit all day like my daughter. She has a desk job (technology consultant at a well known company) and all she does is sit and types away in her computer. When she gets back home, I'm definitely sharing this to her. What will you do to get out of the couch and just try to be active? If you're job is like of my daughter, what would you advise to her so that she could interrupt sitting while she can? Thanks.

That's some shocking news. Can you provide the link? I wanna read the whole thing. My job is sorta like a desk job as well. Didn't know sitting decreases the burning of fat by 90%. Now I'm gonna have to visit the gym at least once a day to hit the threadmills (I'm gonna try, at least). I don't wanna shorten my life because being a lame @ss.

I'm not sure if providing the link will not break any rules for me. But it's in matchmove yahoo. ph.yahoo.mathcmovegames.com/news/article/sitting-is-killing you. Last year, I was also in the gym but I can't maintain it. That's a good perspective for you to try to hit the treadmill once a day. Long lived our lifes. Hahaha.

Oops sorry wrong url. Below is the correct one:
ph.yahoo.matchmovegames.com/news/article/sitting-is-killing-you
In the previous url, the c and h in matchmove were interchanged and there is no dash between killing and you. Sorry about that. I can't paste the url here because I have not yet posted above 500 posts. I hope you get to see the article. :)

I usually read small articles online. I won't read long articles. I tried many times to read long articles. But I couldn't finish my reading. I will fall in sleep if I try to read long articles.
I don't know how I will react if my daughter is having the same problem like your daughter's. I can't explain what step can I take in that situation. Because money is above all. For getting money and leading a standard life we have to work hard and have to forget about our health and its after effects.

The article is short. It's even a infographic that if you are a visual type of person, you'll appreciate the facts that was written there. I don't think money is above all. If your health is at risk and you get die younger, why do we still have to work for money. We need to be aware and try to do things that adverse the effect.

People who have desk jobs are really in risk of having a shorter life span so you spread the fact around. I agree that teachers could have the longest life span, same as carpenters, for they seldom sit. I have teachers who are already in their 80s and they still have an active lifestyle.

I guess sitting whole day those made your body suffer if u are seated in the wrong position and no properly support for your back and lumbar and also wrists and also too close to the monitor can head your head and eyesight. Hence better invest in a good chair with good support for back and also support for neck and head.Do not seat for too long exercise and strecth those limbs once a while.

Reading the article, it also suggest that you seat at 130 degress inclined in your seat so that your back would not suffer. Seating at 90 degress will also have strain on your back. Sitting 130 degrees puts less strain on your back than hunching forward or even seating straight. That's right I have invested in a good computer chair in my house cause my back is suffering a lot whenever I sit. I usually stand awhile when I feel that I have seat for already a long time.

Ah! Interesting. I did come across that article but I didn't read it. Hehe. =P
Anyway, I suppose that just shows that we should take breaks frequently and walk around a bit, stretch and do things like that. Maybe that's pretty much the advice that can be given to your daughter as well. Try to take breaks and stand, walk around, stretch a little. =)

You should have read it. You'll be shocked with the facts. Yes, I have shared that to my daughter that she should try to move around when she is in office or whenever she's doing work from home. She said sometimes she forgets because she is very much focused on what she is doing.

Buy to your daughter a pet and goes with her to run together 1 hour a day around your neighborhood.

I use to sit for way too long and my skinny ankles use to balloon. So not only did I buy a prop for my feet while I sit online, I do tend to get up at least once every hour and do something else besides sit all day long.
For a year now I have not had the swelling and glad too becasue they were not looking really good. Was not aware of the health issues you mentioned but then I have made some changes to prevent any further damage.

I also read that article and it really made me wonder how much time I spend sitting and I realized that I had to do something to change my habits, because I also sitting for long hours in front of the computer, and I had no idea that the simple act of sitting could be so dangerous for our health. In fact right after posting this reply I'm going to stand up and move for a minutes before I go back on the chair and to Mylot.I hope that will help me live a little longer.

So true. I definitely agree. When I saw the article, it made me think how much time I spent sitting and it's not doing good for my health. Good idea there. For every post you made, you should try to stand up for about 10 seconds and go back sitting again. Hehehe. Or you should try to type in mylot while standing. hehehe.

I read an article like that a while ago. If I remember correctly, the article stated that a person who sits during their job should try to get up and move around at least once an hour, even if it's just walking down the hall or something. A lot of people that have blood clots that develope in their legs also have jobs where they sit a lot, those clots can be extremely dangerous. But something else to keep in mind is that if you have a clot developing and suddenly start being active, the chances of it breaking loose become higher and that can be just as dangerous. It's always a good idea to speak with a doctor before starting a workout routine.

I didn't know that you could have blood clots just by sitting. That's horrible. Maybe you should move your leg while sitting so that this won't happen. You could try to shake your legs. I just hope that works. I have also read that people who have desk jobs should get up and stand as much as possible. I'm advising it to my daughter and other people who are always standing
