Do you always open the door when someone rings the door bell?
I never have, never will.
Why?
One time, a few years ago when I was home with my mother. Two huge American Guys rung out door bell. We thought it was just advertisers so we ignored it but our tv was on so they could hear it. They pounded on the door screaming, I can here you - open it. They banged on the door so loud, we thought the door was going to fall down. We were about to call the cops, but they ran off in a car.
It was a scary moment. Their intention was to probably get in our house and there was 2 huge guys.
On the news like a few months ago, a cop was home- opened the door and two guys beat him and stole stuff.
So, I suggest you to never open the door to strangers.

Hi there, so sorry to hear that... your experience truly scared me off... always make sure that doors are all locked and never entertain strangers.... I do not just open the door when someone rings the door bell... i always peep outside our window to check who rang the door bell... if i don't know the person, I ask him/her what does he/she needs... Robbery is rampant in the place where I live in. Our neighbor's car tire was stolen two weeks ago and nobody saw the incident... nyay! whenever I go out, I always bring my tear gas with me... it's a good self-defense tool against the bad guys roaming around the streets..

I suppose you need to be very careful on this situation. Although, the people who knocks your door looks soft, it can be some disguise for them. Recently, people use that tricks. In my country, there are some cases like old woman who knocking the door, saying that she needs money badly for his children. The reason is so many, like to pay their school, to give them food, or to buy them some toys. The old woman is faking her cry, and of course, making who see it feel heartened. For a quick, the old woman can get some money from that tricks.

Yeah, everyone should be careful.
We don't get people who beg here so often door to door but yeah those who look soft can be dangerous too.

No. we always asks first before we open the doors or wait until they speak and tell who they are. It's hard to just open the door and didn't know what's waiting for you outside.
How did you know that those where two huge guys out your door? It can be really scary. Specially when you are all girls inside the house isn't it? It's hard to risk your lives with just opening your door.

I have am quite happy to tell you that my house is surrounded by my family members. They can see the whole thing which is happening outside the home. So I can get any body at day time but the problem comes at the night time. My relatives use to sleep little early the we used t sleep. So no one could hear us when we have problems at late night. So we people doesn't used to open the door immediately when the calling bell make the noise.

we have a gate and its always close, for safety purposes, we don't readily open the gate when someone ring the doorbell. if its someone we don't know, we just talk to them while peeking beside the gate. sometimes we tell them that our dogs bite so they cant go indise. LOLS

Well here where I live, I live in a brownstone in Brooklyn. There are bars on the windows and a iron gate in front of the front door. So they will never get in. I also have a baseball bat ready and waiting just in case. I never just open the door. where my door is you could look out the window and see who it is before the door gets opened.

Ever since when I was a kid,
my parents told me not to open
the door instantly when someone
rings the doorbell. We always
check out in the window first and see who it is
and if it's someone we know, we can open the door.
If it's a stranger, we can talk to them either
from the window or from inside the gate.

Well if in America, the houses don't have gates, here in my country, most house have gates. So people really won't be able to knock on our doors. LOL.
Anyway, whenever someone rings the gate bell, I am not the one
who always responds to that. I always call my brother because I'm too shy
to entertain the strangers. I don't know why I don't feel comfortable
to face people in my house clothes.

Oh that's really very scary to hear. I like to suggest you for a video door phone, which helps to see and talk to the person who is outside your home premises without opening the door. This system helps you to secure your home from theft.

No! Because the first thing that I do before opening the door when someone ring the door bell is to check out who's out there to make sure their not bad guys. :)

It depends. If I'm alone, absolutely not. But if I'm with other people, I probably will answer the door, epsecially if someone says: "There's the door; are you going to get it?" Or something like that. Because not to do so would look strange. On the whole though, I don't like unsolicited knocks or rings on the door.

We have a bell (temple bell) at the gate which alerts us of any visitors. We can see the visitors from the house and if we know we open the gate, else we deal with them near the gate. The gate is locked because we have a dog as it can run out if the visitors open the gate on their own and keep it open.

That's a very traumatic experience. Luckily, I haven't experienced anything scary as that. I guess opening a door for a stranger isn't a good thing, at least most of the time. Actually, we don't also open our door for strangers who look like they want to sell something to us. I have nothing against door to door salespeople. It's just that they become annoying at times when they insist that you buy their products. If I would be left alone at home, I wouldn't dare open the door when someone knocks especially if I have no reason to believe that someone would be knocking at a late time of the night.
