Do you rate discussions and answers in MyLot?

I was observing this plus and minus sign a moment ago and wondering how will it affect the member's discussion or answer. Have you tried this here? Does it have something to do with the earnings?

Hi there and welcome to myLot.
Yes I do rate and although not compulsory it is something that members are asked to do. However until you have 100 participation you cannot rate. It is also important you understand how to use it because abusing the rate system will also affect your own. I have only rated one member in my entire year here and that was simply because he was abusing a member for his difficulty with English.
I often rate positive (+) and or (!) report button. The report button should be used in abusive situations so that admin can advise there after. The rating systme is not a voting system and neg rating someone simply because they do not agree with you is wrong.
Please read here and learn how to use them, because I cannot stress the importance of it affecting you as well:

In terms of earnings, yes a lower star will not earn for the same participation a higher star has, do read the above, because while you are accumulating your first star you would know what to enhance and or avoid.
Best of luck and welcome aboard!

You are very welcome and that is correct at 100 you can rate, also by responding to me the others do not get the alert and or are not aware that you commented. Let me help you a bit here so that when you reach that 100 not only will you be happy about your rating but also be an over all happy myLotter.
Starting a discussion and us responding earns us, if you respond to all responses then you earn. Here on myLot we earn for all quality typing. I see some really great responses you may want to return and comment.
It will gain you more knowledge as well as get to know members a bit more. It is never too late to return to any of your discussions and comment back to members.
Good luck to you and hope to see you floating all over the place here on myLot!

I rate posts although not religiously. sometimes i do and sometimes i don't. The plus and minuses affects the rating of the member and the ratings in turn affects the earnings we are accumulating, i don't know the exact calculation but what i know is that your ratings is directly proportional to your earning per posts.

I am not sure but there is an item in your given link that the discussion rating system is factored into mylot's proprietary earnings algorithm which helps in properly rewarding valuable contributions to the mylot community. I actually thought of this as something that rewards those with high reputation more than those with a lower number star. This is why i think the negative ratings should not be abused as this could gravely and adversely affect both the member's reputation and earnings. I might be wrong though with my interpretation.

I think it will affect their stars instead.. I usually rate them since they deserve to be rated - kind of thanks for answering my discussion.. I usually give thumbs up and not down, or just skip them if i want to rate them down.
