We have a portable one and it's also electrical but we use it only for those emergency patch-up jobs that can be done faster than by hand-sewing it. But I'd still go for the classic mechanical one. Although quite a bit bulky, it can last decades and the parts are cheap. But if you're really set on getting an electrical one, find a well-known brand that has accessible after-sales service in case something happens to your unit.

as long as the sewing machine is portable (i need a small or medium size since my space is limited), has great features, sturdy, and cheap then that's what i'll go for. i also want an easy to use or lets say friendly-user machine, and if possible something that can work on not only with light clothes and tshirts but also with maong pants. (not the super thick maong though. :) hope you can help me....

I have 2. One with features(Brother)and one without features(Singer). The one without features is just a good sturdy basic sewing machine no frills.Thew other one has a lot of stitch designs on it. My sturdier one I use on jeans and quilting. The features one gets used on lighter stuff.I have had the Singer a long time and no repairs. The Brother has been in the shop a few times.Don't get more than what you will need in a machine.

i heard Brother is a good brand. im basically gonna stitch on t-shirts, (i dont paint my designs. i stitch them on shirts) im just gonna use light kind of cloth. but later on im planning to work on with skirts and pants as well, and i dont want to buy another sewing machine for it. i want a small sewing machine since my space is limited, and i have not much budget so i'll go for the cheap but very sturdy ones with tons of features i can use. hope you can give me further help. thanks

If you are looking for a basic sewing machine, stay clear of the ones with all the features. They tend to cost more, and not as tough as the older ones. I have a sewing machine that my mom gave to me, and it work better than the ones I brought with all the technological advance features. Good luck.

I just bought a new SInger 9960. Let me know if you are still looking and want details. I had a Singer 2010 for the last 25 years and it worked great! Few things on it that they changed on the new one and I wish they hadn't!

I recommend you that you buy a simple sewing machine from a good and known brand. No use paying for a lot of gadgets if you donĀ“t know how to sew. All you need for most things is straight and zigzag functions. No need to embroider

If you can find one that doesn't have a lot of computerized stuff on it, they will last longer. I would look for a good second hand one rather than a cheap new one. Exactly which one you buy depends on what you want. Most electric machines have buttonholers and several stitches like zigzag and different edgings as well as a few decorative stitches. Unless you're really into sewing, a basic sewing machine should be sufficient. Also, look for a brand name. I'm not one to buy brand names just because, but a good brand will stand behind its products and they tend to be made a little better.
