How do I measure this cat food so they don't eat too much?

Hello fellow mylotters. I have a predicament. Easy to solve for someone who is alright at mathematical equations. I have 5 cats, and my vet told me to put them all on this special food because two of them are showing crystals in their urine. Since they are all related, they all should be on this prescription food. I have noticed there is food left until evening when I feed them in the morning. I feed them twice a day, breakfast and dinner. They get 1/2 serving in the morning and the rest in the evening. I was giving them about a cup each of the regular food. This prescription diet requires them to have 3/4 cup a day each, but I have been giving them too much! I don't want fat cats. lol. It is not good for their health. How do I figure this out? 3/4x5. I have totally forgot how to do fractions. Thank you!

Basically, you can convert the fraction to the decimal point so 3/4 = 0.75 (or 75%) so 0.75 x 5 = 3.75. I know this may be hard but is there anyway you can feed your cats separately so you know that they are all getting the equal amount of food & there aren't a couple eating more than the others?

3/4 a cup is only an estimate. Your cats may need more or less depending on their size and activity level. Keep an eye on their weight and adjust the food accordingly.

I had been giving them about 1/2 cup a day when I was giving them 2 meals, but now that I am trying to free feed them, they are eating more than that. Plus they get a large can or 2 small cans of food a day. The food is all gone by the afternoon, and they are following me around the kitchen after that because they think they are hungry. They are putting on a bit, I can see it. At night I give them a can for a snack, and a few handfuls more of dry food to satisfy their great hunger until morning. I chase them alot to get them moving. lol. Mama needs to run a bit too, so it helps us all out.

I always go by what the vet suggests. Every vet and long time cat owners says the bag suggestion is way too much. We have 2 cats, every day they each get 1/6 of a cat of get food (the 6 oz can) and 1/4 cup of dry food. I am surprised your vet automatically changed their food. I would seek out a second opinion. Often crystals are from cats not getting enough moisture in their diet and not drinking enough water.

Stinker had a bad infection several months back, due to crystals. Poor guy was constantly going and only little drops came out along with blood. My vet worked in emergency for awhile, and he told me he has seen cats come back because the food was changed back to an over the counter. He told me I could feed everone but Stinker Purina Pro Plan or Iams for urinary problems, but it is difficult to keep Stinker out of their food. He ended up with crystals again, and now another one has them so I am concerned they will have problems if I do not keep them on the prescription food. They are all related, and the vet told me that this is an inherited problem. The bag is telling me wrong, you are correct. I feed them a little less than the bag says, so I will just continue to feed them what I normally have been. And that is a bit too much so we need to scale down a bit.
