My oldest grandchildren call my husband Poppy. And then there's Pate. She's 15 months old and insists on calling him "Pop-Pop" She can say Poppy, but when you point to Mike and ask "Who is that?" she says "Pop-Pop" So I guess it is going to stick.
My daughter asked me to day if she should continue correcting her, try to persuade the other two kids to call him Pop Pop or just let it go and see if she changes it on her own when she's older.
As I said we can tell her "Say Poppy" and she'll repeat us, so we know she can say it, but she just WON"T! LOL
I told Tyra to just let her go for now and see what happens. Did I tell her right?

thats so cute. yes its best just to leave it. a lot of little ones have their own special names for people. some of my grandkids call me grandma but one calls me ninia from baby on. no idea why. one step grandkid has been calling me stefhonie we think its because it comes out from "grandma Bonnie" not sure. but its cute. so we leave it go.

that is too cute! It's funny how little ones hear something completely different from what we're really saying. I actually got the name Nonnie because my niece couldn't say Paula. She called me Nonna and then when the grandbaby came along my daughter changed it to Nonnie and it stuck.

She is a cutie! I would not worry too much about correcting her. My daughter used to call her cousin Karla ‘ka ka’ for a very long time and she has definitely outgrown it. Now she can’t believe that she could not pronounce her cousin’s name! She used to say ‘bubble’ when she wanted a drink too; none of us have ever figured out why she used to call drinks ‘bubble’ but we let it go and the habit eventually disappeared.

My three year old great nephew will tell my mother in law (His great grandmother) that he wants "Slobber" when he wants a drink. It came from the day when he wanted a drink and she was teasing and told her that she did not want him to slobber in her drink. It is too cute.

Of course you told her right. No sense forcing it. I understand that my two year old granddaughter has her own set ways of saying things even though she is able to say it the other way. For instance, no matter where she is jumping, she is "jumping on the bed" and no matter who she is talking to on the phone she is "talking to daddy." She will get it straight later. Pate will follow the other kids lead as she gets older.

I believe you are right, she is beginning to form her idea of what interaction is and playing games. That is so fun.

It's funny because when she says it she giggle uncontrollably! So we think she knows exactly what she's saying and just wants to hear one of us say Nnnnoooo! and tickle her. She is a mess that's for sure.

Thanks. She is a mess that is one thing for certain. She is developing her own little personality. Of course she's stubborn and opinionated just like her mother. LOL
Tyra was talking to me yesterday and Pate kept trying to grab the phone. If I tried to talk to her, she would giggle and throw the phone back at Tyra, but as soon as she started trying to say something, Pate was after it again!

I think she'll grow over it on her own. In time, she'll learn how to say Poppy instead of Pop Pop. Just enjoy her baby talk for the time being. You see kids, you adore them most when they're at this stage where they're learning things and discovering things. Later, you'll have to answer a lot questions when they start to ask and before you know it, they're all grown up and deciding for themselves.

You are right about them growing up fast. it seems like only last week that Pate's older brother Zane was just beginning to talk. In June, he will turn 5 and go to Kindergarten in the fall. Jace lost all of the chubby baby fat and now she looks like a little girl.
I've included a picture of the three of them just before Thanksgiving last fall.

She is young and learning how to talk so enjoy however she called her grandpa. It will change when she hears the older kids, and then maybe again it won't and that will be her special word for her grandpa.
My grandbaby girl Trinity calls me G-ma. She is 17 months old.
I can tell the difference between when she calls Mama and G-ma LOL I get a kick out her. Relax and enjoy these are memories being made we will be able to tell them later.

Oh believe me I do enjoy her! She is the love of my life. All she has to do is look up at me with those big blue eyes and I'm lost! I hate that I don't get to see them as often as I'd like with them living in another state. but I do talk to them on the phone at least once a week!
