Rude Awakening

I love this time of year. It isn't so hot that I need the a/c but it's warm enough to open the windows. Last year the cats were hanging off my screens so I have removed the screens from two of my windows: one in my bedroom, the other in the living room. I like to sleep with my bedroom window open so that the cats can come and go as they please. This avoids Smoky leaving me any stinky presents on the floor, too, since he can go outside whenever he wants. This morning I was in the middle of a dream when suddenly, Chester came bolting through the window, across my bed and, of course, across me as well...claws and all! Needless to say, I was not pleased. Not only did he wake me up rather rudely but he dug his claws into me and left me with some not so pleasant reminders of him. I have no idea what jolted him so bad that he came in like that. Something outside must have spooked him, big-time. Cats are always an adventure, aren't they?

You can say that again. I too have a cat, and he is anything but predictable. He is a little ball of energy, even now while I am commenting on your post, he is running across the floor chasing invisible things, LOL. I too have taken out a few screens in the house, like the one in my bedroom. However my bedroom is on the second floor of the house and it's quite a drop. I didn't think that my cat would be daring enough to go out that window, but it turns out I was wrong. When I came into my room from putting my girls to bed, I looked around and couldn't find my cat anywhere. I figured that something was up because normally when I take out his treats, it doesn't matter where he is, he comes running. Not this time. I went into my room and put on my night clothes and was just getting ready to climb into bed, when I got this very strange feeling. I got back up and walked to my open window, stuck my head outside and...... There was my cat. Happy as can be, on the roof of our house. I know that people say that cats always land on their feet, and that might be true in most cases, but from that height, I was afraid he would get hurt. So in my night close, I climbed half out my window and called to him, he must have been thinking that he didn't like heights too much, cause as soon as I got close enough he jumped into my arms. I have since decided that I don't want him in my room, and since he has the rest of the house pretty much to himself, I don't feel too bad. Now I make certain that when I open the windows, the door is closed or the cat is put away for the night. I can certainly say that having a cat is anything but boring. Happy mylotting and thanks for sharing.

Well it looks like we both have cats that have an adrenalin complex, LOL. (sorry about the spelling) I guess that sometimes cat naps just aren't exciting enough for them. I know that this summer, I will be a little more careful about leaving windows open when the cat is around. Good luck and happy mylotting.

We have since bought our own mobile home so no more problems with neighbors. It's so nice to have the freedom that ownership affords.

LOL...I know exactly what you are talking about. Before we moved here we were in a third floor apartment...two stories up in front, three in back as it was built on a hillside. The back had a balcony and we thought the cat would be fine on the balcony. Darn if he didn't just run down the outside wall of the building to the ground! He did the same thing in front out of my bedroom window! Of course, getting back up the wall was a different matter. Since the apartment complex had inner doors rather than doors that opened to the outdoors as so many newer apartments do, Samul got trapped in the hallway between doors on occasion and a couple of times relieved himself on the neighbors' doorsteps. This did not make us too popular with the neighbors (or the landlord). I did try to keep him inside, though. I'm sure they were all relieved when we moved away.

LOL...ain't it the truth! Misty hates Chester and he is such a bully, normally, that I take her side anytime she starts growling and hissing at him. They all have their own personalities and the family dynamics are never dull!

we have to do that too, except we are generally having to scold Boo or Oliver or sometimes one of the "Bouquet Girls"

LOL...I hear you loud and clear on that point. I love the old quote, "My dog thinks he's human; my cat thinks he's God!" Ain't it the truth! We don't own them; they own us!

I would never want to live where my cat could not go outside. I live in a rural small town, a farming community, and in a trailer park in that small town, no less. Cats are hunters by nature and I believe in allowing them to follow their nature. They are also very independent and I have to respect that, as well.
