Toddlers at the Pre-school

Now that the school year 2011 to 2012 is about to start, my son at the age of 3 will be attending his first class in school as nursery 1 student.
I know he is excited about it but deep in me I know that being in school for the first time is not as simple as that.
I would like to have some ideas situations and how to handle kids on the first day of school.

Based on personal experience, mothers are more anxious during the first day of school than the kids. The idea of leaving your child to a "stranger" outside your home was perplexing for me. However, I also know that it is part of motherhood. To make my son get ready for pre-school, weeks before the school started, I kept on telling him how exciting it is to be with other kids of his age. Thus, on his first day of school, I simply told him that it was the day to meet new friends. It worked as he was not clingy to me on his first day of school.
