What are grits? Where do they come from? How are they grown? My son has been asking and i told him id find out?

Corn. It's coarsely ground corn that you cook with liquid (Italians have polenta). I like regular grits better than hominy grits. But don't get instant grits. They're not nearly as good. Some cheese in there makes all the difference too!
