Where Would Lady Gaga Be without Her Fans?

This is in-no-way saying Lady Gaga is anything less than 'the hardest working person in show-business' (besides James Brown, and maybe even harder-working). But--just like the most-powerful worker uses the most 'leverage' (using 'the forces already in motion' to get the work done more-efficiently)--Lady Gaga recognizes that she can only be 'lifted to stardom' with a boost from her 'fans' (little monsters, she calls them), and she acknowledges them better than any human pop-star does! I guess I'm asking: Would she still be doing music if there were no one cheering her on? And if she wouldn't, what would Lady Gaga do (probably under the name Angelina Germanotta)?

I like Lady Gaga. The songs are very nice especially the latter. The style is a bit jarring but it is quite famous and challenging. I can say that I wish to see her show on 16 June in Paris, but alas no way to do this. Hope you go.Have a nice day!

I would go, if someone 'paid my way there' (including passport, plane tickets, housing AND concert-tickets )

You clearly are not a fan, mythociate, so why are you creating so many discussions about her? It seems odd. I like her music, but I don't care to see her in person. I'm not big into "over-the-top" performances... I love it when the MUSIC is the center of the show and not the "performance." (aka NEVER would I want to attend a Britney Spears show!)

(I should add that my comment about you not being a fan, comes more from the totality of your responses and not just this one.)

Lady Gaga is a pretty talented artist she plays the piano and she writes her own songs also can sing better then most pop stars of recent years I would not call myself a super fan, but I like some of her music, but quite honestly sometimes I think she tries too hard to send out a big heavy message, and shes always On meaning shes constantly wearing these crazy costumes and hyping herself up, its to a point where she no longer seems like a real person that's just the impression I get from interviews and press pictures that I've seen of her she seems unreal and not in a good way, but I guess this over hyped image shes projecting seems to be working for her I don't mean to sound like a hater or judgmental because I'm not that kind of person, but she puts on all the time, I don't know her and I'm not trying to be rude I respect her talent and I like that she thinks outside the box but sometimes its a bit much.

She probably is just an average intellectual but she makes herself seem unapproachable and plastic Other celebs like beyonce for example seem like someone you can chill with Beyonce usually looks and speaks relaxed during interview, but Gaga seems a bit stiff and dramatic I just get that impression of her I could be wrong of course, but she seems like someone who needs to relax a bit and stop trying so hard to prove something or make some big point all the time. But Gaga is a talented person who would have inevitably became successful as she is now.

Maybe Lady Gaga's interview persona is just 'perpetual motion,' influenced by the stage-persona her music inspires in her.

In all the interviews I've seen Lady Gaga in (mostly on FUSE TV), she seems like your average intellectual in the spotlight. As for her putting on; It actually seems like Lady Gaga is more 'being put on/upon by producers and promoters etc,' and--as it is profitable--she goes with the Flow and encourages it!

Well, you know the MLA-motto (Master of Liberal Arts): "Would you like fries with that?"

I think any musician (or actor, writer, painter) who truly believes they would be able to continue doing what they are doing without fans is either stupid, insane or lying. A musician without an audience is playing to the walls and the walls don't buy merch or tickets or albums. As for acknowledging her fans better than any pop star... that could be. I was going to argue that Mat Devine and Kill Hannah go out of their way to forge friendships, real, honest, let me know if you ever need anything friendships with their fans but they are neither pop nor stars (by industry standards...their fans, however believe they are bigger than the Beatles) so yeah, you could be right.

So what else would Lady Gaga do? I "Search the Web"-ed '"lady gaga" jobs' to see if anyone out there knows what she would do ... found a "The Telegraph"-post about her taking a day off from promoting "Born This Way" to spend the day as a guest editor for the free global newspaper Metro International (I wonder if I can get a free subscription fast and get a free copy of her issue!)

That's a hard question. She seems to be doing exactly what she was meant to be. The fans really are everything. If she were not as supported..I'm not sure what she would be doing. Maybe acting.

Maybe she is acting: Stefani Germanotta playing the role she (and the producers and her fans etc.) invented ... Lady Gaga!

Yes, because although I am sure she loves the music as well as her fans, she probably would be singing in her neighborhood pub, if she did not have the fans she currently does. I think she would have still had the passion and drive to try somehow to succeed. I don't necessarily think she would have given up. I also think she would have created Lady Gaga anyways because it appears that she really loves the name as well. Let's face it the fans give her the boost but the music makes her thrive.

I guess I'm her mirror (minus the 'work' it would take to make me a 'star')

I know I'm going to offend a couple of people here, but yeah, there does seem to be one or two silly people out there who think she has a modicum of talent, and who sadly see her as a role model. I dont see how someone who actively promotes underage drinking, irresponsible behavior and one night stands can be anything like a role model to anyone. And then most recently to go getting spiky things installed under her skin is just ludicrous! Of course she wouldnt be able to continue if those silly people didnt follow her.

Yes she would be where she is because whether or not we agree with the message shes sending out, talent is talent and she is talented She can sing well and she dances She can write well She has a creative mind She can play instruments She (different) My point is no matter who likes her her abilities cant be denied and her success was bound to happen, how long she will last is another story.

I'm not asking 'if she DESERVES to be where she is,' I'm asking 'where she would be' ... or is the music just a part of her soul now?

Amen, apples! She is the Music! She's like a star, shining just as brightly whether the world can see her or not!

Lady gaga is certainly a poular icon in these times. she is more than entertaining and a bit controversial as well. Just like any other performer, Lady gaga needs the adoration, attention and support of her fans. without fans, who does a performer have to perform for?

Why do people think this is a rhetorical question? i.e. What Would Lady Gaga Do?
