I guess your m edium of instruction is not English. Siliguri! Are you preparing for some competitive examination or do you want to learn English grammar for the sake of it?
To your question in the above context , I am giving you the explanation --
"Knowledge of at least two languages are required to pass the examination" is the given sentence. Now, let us split the sentence into Subject and predicate. As you know very well, the number in the subject determines the verb used.Ok?
Knowledge of at least two languages--subject
are required to pass the examination--predicate. --'are' is wrong here.
'Is ' should be the verb used because 'knowledge' is singular. If the sentence starts with a plural word then the plural verb can be used.
Read this example now."Lessons in different languages are to be taken if one needs to pass this test."--Here the subject is "Lessons in different languages'--'lessons' is plural. 'Ther verb 'are' must be used.
Is it clear now?
Regarding your dream, just wait and read a lot.

Send me a PM with your mail ID if you are really serious about learning the subject.
We will take it thereon.
Grammar should be a case of going back after being proficient in the language. You need to know certain rules, practise a lot if you need to know the subject. But, everything apart, extensive reading would improve your vocabulary and you would be able to learn English.
Thanks a lot for the BR.
TO your question--"Languages ' is not the primary subject in the given sentence. 'Knowlege ' is the primary subject and the phrase that follows it ["of at least two languages'] adds to the meaning of the subject by elaborating about what kind of knowledge is required .

Please allow me to translate this post as I would have written it.
" Really, I mean I badly want to become a Master in English Grammar, and I'm working very hard to achieve the same. The reason for it is the confusion I have while studying English Grammar. There should be, 'is' in place of 'are' given in the answer, but why is, 'is' used in place of, 'are'... as we know that 'are' is used when we are speaking of the plural."
My answer- In this case it should be 'is,' because we are speaking of Knowledge which is singular.

The best way to learn grammar in any language is to enroll in a language class. The next best thing is by living with a native of that country, as for your example, the US or the UK (depending solely on which kind of English you want to learn). That would make you a passable English speaker/writer in no time.
Also, check out websites like this which can help you improve on your grammar: http://www.grammarmudge.cityslide.com/Home.html

I think the previous answers already explained why the subject is singular. Don't be confused if the sentence has a long subject or a long predicate. Try to divide the sentence and locate the main subject and the main verb, if your subject and your verb agree then it's grammatically correct!
I am not a Native English speaker but I believe my English is good enough (grammatically).
I learned a lot from books I read since I was in grade school. And until now, my English is improving because of reading. Read and practice a lot and you'll achieve your dream. Good luck!

Agree with kalav explanation.
Regarding your dream, a lot of exercise will help you in mastering the subject. I a not good in English too and we have spent more than 10 years to learn but I am really positive that we can master it someday. We just need to get used of it and practice make perfect!

what i would say to you is that do you know anyone whose first language is english? get to know them, talk to them, spend time around them. eventually, you will pick up a masterful grip of the english language and it's grammar. since you aren't consciously thinking "I MUST LEARN THIS" your brain picks it up easier.
