There are a few good antivirus software that are freeware. Three names that come to mind are Avira, Avast and AVG. For my money, Avast is the best since it offers behavior shield. Also, it memory footprint is the least and updates of virus signature database takes place extremely fast. Please share your knowledge on this topic.

I have used in the past Avast and McAffrey. Avast was good for a free product, and McAffrey isn't free but I also didn't like it. Now, I use Norton, though with some of the programs I use, I have to shut it down or it reads certain files like a virus (even though it isn't).

You want free, low memory consumer, updatable without the need of serial?
Then you can use Microsoft Security Essentials. But, there are only few requirement before you can use it, and that is : Windows Operating System and it must be Genuine!
You can try that free security software, believe me, its like those commercial ones and very good in detecting harmful viruses, trojans and other malware.

In my opinion, Hitman Pro is the best. though It's not free, but you can scan first, and if you have a virus, then you activate it. It is valid for 30 days from that point!
