Is death penalty reduces the number of crime?

I don't think so that it will reduces the number of crime because death penalty is the one where if a person commits serious mistakes then he will be punished means he will be hanged but do you think from this death penalty number of crimes reduces? If a person like thief or Robber are not undergoing with this punishment. Then what is the use of this death penalty?

I think that if you are in an 'eye for an eye' type of law, that yes it would reduce crime.
