Playhouse Disney vs. Disney Jr

Does anyone know why Playhouse Disney was changed to Disney Jr? I have 2 young ones and I have it on tv quite often. I haven't noticed many changes at all except for the "ads" are a little different and that Jake and Pirates show premiered. Other than that I haven't seen a change. I think Disney is going to come out with a new Disney channel however I haven't heard tell at all.
