Alone at home: eat more or less?

I am home alone this week.
My son is on vacation at my in-laws while hubby has to go on a field work.
So I have the house on my own.
The fridge is not stocked as I don't want to cook my own meals.
To me it would just be a waste considering I don't eat much.
So I bought my meals at an eatery I drop by on my way home.
BUT
I noticed I started to binge.
Mondays,I both my favorite fruits which is in season and I had some pearl shakes which I was requesting hubby to buy days ago. Yesterday, I both some mais con yelo with ice cream topping, which is a cold and refreshing snack made with sweet corn, shaved ice, milk and sugar. I don't know what I will have for today?
How about you dear Mylotters, do you eat more or less when you are alone at home?
Thanks for sharing!

Hi SP! I live alone so I don't really know whether I eat more or less with company. I do notice, though, that I would give in to a craving more when I'm alone. My roommate before was a picky eater, so we normally buy what she likes (I like everything ) so when I crave something she doesn't like, I eat alone.

That's a hard question. Well, there's snails...hahah, based on a discussion I posted in sometime ago. And, also fish paksiw (eww)...Hmmm...All the rest, I'll eat 'em.

Really you don't like fish paksiw? I can eat it I just need to make sure I brush my teeth afterwards.
Eeww, I don't like snails too and also "buro" (fermented rice with fish). It is my brohter's favorite dish and I usually wince and hold my nose when my mom would cook it. The smell alone makes me sick!

Yeah, I only give in to my cravings when I'm alone as I watch what I eat when I am with my kiddo. I cant' forbid my son to eat junk foods when he sees me eating one. I should know to practice what I preach specially when he is around.
Is there anything you don't like to eat Glorya?

It's been more than 3 years since I've been alone at home. That's when the kids went home to see the grannies.
Although I wouldn't say that I was eating less, I did notice that I was eating a lot of desserts then. I would also just buy food because I did not want to bother myself with washing the dishes.
And I had a lot of sweet stuff all around the house.

I usually indulge my sweet tooth whenever I'm alone. I can't afford to have sweets stuck at home as I have a 5 year old son to consider. He almost lost all of his teeth because of sweets.

For me, it often depends on the situation. Most of the time I would tend to say that I find myself eating a lot less, as I tend to get so busy on the Internet either posting here, or doing other things online to where it seems like I am forgetting to eat until I am so hungry to where I have to eat something. I also think I tend to eat not as Healthy either if it is just me. If I drove and was alone I would probably find myself at a Fast food restaurant more than not just because it was just me to cook for.

I am just like you too. When I got hooked on line, I become unmindful of the time that I often forgo eating. It is only when my stomach churns that I will notice that I had skipped my meal. I too am a regular at eateries when I am alone. Saves on the dishes to wash!

If I am alone at home, the meal can be very simple. As I don't want to spend more time cooking. As long as I feel full, that will be fine. I can have more spare time to do whatever I like. So perhaps I will eat less than usual because I won't prepare for a nice meal for myself anyway.
I love China

I agree. We usually prepare something simple because we only have to satisfy our own tummy. Sometimes in my laziness and to do away with the dish washing, I sometimes eat out.

Hi sweet pea: i usually eat less when I am alone because I feel better to start a diet for example or to just eat what i really need. You can wake up and drink a cup of coffee for your breakfast when it's just you but when you are with your family you try to prepare something special don't you? So I use this times to eat less.

Actually Alvaro, I rarely cook in my home. There are more talented people in my family who cooks better than I do. I leave the cooking to my husband and I do the washing afterwards.

Hmm. It depends on what's in the fridge!
If I'm home alone and there's a lot of food in the fridge, I will surely eat more because I'd be be either myLotting or watching television or something where I can indulge in the munchies. [em]thumbup[/em

Hi Steph!
Our fridge isn't stock at all except for the hotdogs.
I would remember to stock it all up again when my family comes home this weekend.
Right now, I'll just savor my time alone and go on a binging spree.

Hi. sweet_pea. I think that I would eat less at home if I am home alone. I hardly have many days that I am at home alone. Maybe only a few times out of the year though. Someone is always at home with me. My child. The mais con yelo with ice cream sounds very interesting. I have never heard of this before.

It taste good. In fact you can easily prepare it at home. I just wish I can find some shaved ice, I would have loved to make it at home. Mix the milk, sugar, corn kernels, some nuts and ice creams for toppings. Viola! You already have a sweet cool treat!
I don't usually am alone. Only when my son has to go on vacations to my in-laws which usually last for about a week or two. So except for those days, I have him the rest of the days each year.

Chocolates! I love chocolates!
I love those specially with almonds.
Back in college when I have to binge, I usually buy Snickers with Almonds.
Hmmm, you want your chocolates all by yourself Jazel, don't you want the kids to know? I don't eat chocolates in front of my kiddo too! He barely has any tooth left. I don't want to be the reason for him to loose more of his tooth.

me too! i love them i used to binge on Cadbury bars, milk chocolate preferably and after classes i would go and buy myself hersey bars too!! I love snickers but without Almonds, i do not like anything with nuts or almonds..except macadamia. I also do not give my kids that often because of their teeth

I try to hide the junk foods too when I want to buy one for myself. Although it is not on a regular basis, only when I want to indulge myself. I don't like saying "It's not good for your health" to my son and then he sees me eating them. Our children learn by example.

I normally do not overeat and or binge but when I am alone I tend to eat way too less. Guess I get lazy and just eat something really quick and easy. I don't for me because you know I am on this health kick where for the last 3 years, I have been doing well.
When I know that I have the apartment for myself for days on in, I will pick up lots of fruits and healthy snacks. Enjoy your time alone, sometimes it is nice, but when they come back it is like a relief to have them back.

I must agree with you HWG!
I am more relieved if they come back.
I miss my son so much. I don't have anyone to cuddle and kiss freely as I want.
I haven't bought some junk food chips for now, it's more on fruits and some sweet cold treats.

It depends on the days but I noticed that during those times I was home alone, I gained more and more pounds each day.
I guess it doesn't really matter if you eat more or less cos we do eat more or less even when we're with families'/friends' company. My case! hehe
The thing to be more concerned about would be your physical activity. It's okay to eat meat but make sure to balance it out by moving around a bit more and doing a lot more exercises and maybe home chores. But, the latter could get boring sometimes so take time to plan various activities for the day. :)

I do go to work Mondays to Fridays.
However, it does get lonely when I come home.
I don't feel like eating because I don't have anyone to share my meal.
However, I often see myself binging on fruits and some sweet treats in front of the TV.
I just wish I had a laptop at home so I can just be at Mylot.

I definitely eat less when I'm home alone. The main reason is that I don't know how to cook and I'm too lazy to prepare anything for myself. The nearest restaurant is about 15 kilometers away and I'm too lazy to drive once I'm stuck in the house. That's why I have someone to cook for me or buy food for myself.
Being alone in the house makes me less active thus making me less hungry.

Hi Toni!
We are on the same boat here when you talk about cooking.
I'm not a good cook. I do know the basics, but I'm just too lazy to cook.
I usually buy food at some eateries I pass by on my way from work.
If ever I cook, I only prepare something quick.
I eat less on my meals, but binge on snacks after my meals.

So you eat more when you're stressed out?
I usually binge after a stressful moment like taking an exam when I was in school.
I usually buy my favorite chocolates and pringles afterwards.

It depends..if it's a small nagging I want to binge. I am REALLY stressed I lose my appetite and can't eat. I remember when I used to smoke, I would chain smoke when stressed. I am so happy I am not smoking anymore :)
I eat chocolates to celebrate too! Pringles?? not so much. I don't like them as much as out of a bag.

Congrats stary for quitting smoking!
I too usually lose my appetite when I'm stressed out. I am more focused on solving it that I have no time at all to eat. I usually like to reward myself afterwards by indulging myself to my favorite foods.

Hi! i eat at lot when I'm at home. Eating a lot at home is very relaxing. You just pick whatever is in your storage and you can eat while watching the television or surfing the net. Sometimes I try cooking foods at home. That is why satying a lot at home will really increase my wt., thats just the hard part.

Increase your what....eljayo?
I like being a couch potato and munch and munch just about anything I can find on my fridge. I am just so full afterwards, I feel I'm gonna be sick.

I feel I don't eat well too when I'm alone. I eat more of those sweet things and sometimes junk like hotdogs. Well it is the easiest to cook. I am such a bad cook.
Does your hubby cook for you too?
My hubby does, he cooked me some adobo, marinated chicken and pork before he left me for his trip. He is my personal cook.

You are correct indahft. Money is also a consideration too if we eat more or less apart from our preferences. I think we can do away with a meal or two when we only think of ourselves, but it isn't the same way as when we have kids to feed. Whether we have enough money or not, we see to it that there is food on the table. Their welfare comes ahead of our own.

I tend to be a social eater, so when I am by myself, I tend to eat far less than I doe when there are other people around. In fact, there have been times that I have gone for entire days without eating because there is no one else around and I just don't feel like eating when I don't have someone to have a conversation with. In fact, it is nearly six o'clock in the evening now and I haven't had anything to eat all day today. I'm getting ready to start cooking dinner though.

Oh! Don't you get ulcers for that?
It feels lonely when you eat alone without anyone to share your meal and have a nice conversation. Even if the food is delectable, it seems like the food is tasteless.

I'm usually a very busy person, so I don't spend much time at home, but when I have a free day -or a free evening- I think depending on the day I eat more or less.
I might eat more meals, because when you're bored you feel like eating, or at least it happens to me, but that doesn't mean that I end up eating a bigger quantity than when I eat a smaller number of meals. It depends on my mood

Yes, mood has something to do with the quantity of what we eat.
When I go home and I'm alone, most of the time I don't feel like eating at all.
It really feels lonely eating alone with no one to share the food with and no one to talk too.

I often eat a less when alone. It's simple, to begin with, I don't like or know to cook, and then I'm lazy to do even the most basic meals, more if it's only to myself. So, I first eat all remainders or pre-made food from yesterday or so, then do easy to do foods, and then simply nothing a few times.
My problem is that, while I eat less, that "less" is many times of poorer quality that when I'm with my family. Lucky, it's not so frequent that I have a meal alone.

I am just like you Ramres!
I cook but I'm too lazy to do it.
Good thing my hubby cooked some pre-made food before he left me.
Then I bought some easy to fry food that I can easily make.
At times, I just bought some at the eateries I pass by at home.
I ate less too and not have quality meals when I am alone.
But I binge a lot!

If I am alone at home, I won't spend my time for cooking. I will eat if something is inside the fridge. If I'm alone I also don't have mood to eat. If my husband or child is at home, I won't get time to move away from kitchen. I have to spend the entire time in kitchen for making different different dishes for both of them. Both of them have different taste buds and so I have to cook items according to their taste. If I make food according to my husband's taste, my child will get angry and will blame me. The same thing will happen if I cook food according to my child's taste.

Wow! That's a lot of cooking to do Jiabsa.
Do you enjoy the time you have when you are alone?
Maybe for me to some point when I can have a break from my very active son.
But as the days pass by, I miss him already. I miss coming home to rowdy house.
I miss giving him kisses and hugs freely.
