Friend's girlfriend leaves town for taking a break

Hey I got a friend who has a girlfriend (they live together and they are about to get married in 6m) and she got fired/left the job after a fight with his step mom at their work. And she told him now she is out of work, she will take a break (didn’t say from whom or what) but she will go 400km(8h with car) away from the city to her mom and then to Italy at her cousin for 2-3 weeks. What does u think about that? She saw her mom a few weeks ago, they always talk and stuff so you can't really say that she misses that much. She knows that her boyfriend can't follow her because he spent all his vacation days (going at her mom, a month ago). How would you react if you boyfriend/girlfriend said something like this??
