I am very grateful that I lived today since technology has done wonders for humanity but sometimes, I feel that the life being led by people today is not simple anymore. I used to listen to my grandparents and parent's stories of living simply - without electricity, gadgets, technology and less stress 9their words, not mine). today, they say, living is much more hazardous. People get serious ailments in their younger years, technology is always changing and is almost always changing the people, lifestyles became more complicated and the world isn't the same anymore. What do think - can you live a simple life today?

I would say you could lead a simple life even if you do use technology. To me a simple life is just enjoying what you are given, not taking anything for granted and making the most out of everything that you have in life, regardless of whether you have a nice car to drive an oversized tv to watch or how big your house is

A pleasant day to you Jeanneyvonne,
With reference to your main question, yes it is. Now a days, it is still possible to live simple. However, as the many inventions are created and as the technology becomes more, innovations does not stop. For this reason, complicated life seems to get in. Though people can live in a simplify life, since, they are surrounded by complicated things, the simple life that they want becomes somehow affected.
However, if they will stick and stand to live simple, still, they can do it. They just need to know how to handle some complicated things so they will not be affected that easy.
There are times, people seems to panic that's why they are too much affected of the complicated life, but, if they just live as it is and just live within their means, simple life will just follow.
Have a nice day to you.

Definition of simplicity changes over the age, your parents or grand parents had not that much choice, electricity , TV , Phones had not reached every corner of the world still it has not. but it doesn't mean their life is better than ours. simplicity as I see is not chasing after everything you see on the market. but there is no harm in keeping informed and making informed choices. obviously, no one can imagine living without Gas or electricity in this age and time but yes we can live without psp3, xbox, they are not essentials but luxury. when you say simple life i still know people who live with in their means and teach their children to do so. there are people who do not run after the brand names but look for quality things available in local stores round the corner. And yes their lives are so much less stressful. its just defining what you consider essential and what you consider luxury.

i think living simply is a choice that we make. But sometimes our jobs requires us to be connected with all these technologies.

I don't think so because of the technology and gadgets that have been created for us, it's hard to imagine a day without my itouch or ipad or my advance cell phone. I think that we became adapted to the new technology of today that forget how to live without it.

It would probably depend on the person's upbringing and influences. I've seen some people who are used to living with just the necessities, most of them are living in rural areas in my country. In my case, I can't. I've grown an attachment to technology. I can try to live a simple life but I wouldn't last a week.

Of course people will come up with their own definitions of a simple life, but I think it is not really possible unless you extract yourself from the normal culture. If you are going to own a house, keep a job and raise almost normal children, then you will have to mix it up with the culture - no more simple life!

If living a simple life means no electricity or no tv or no computer, I think I cannot live a simple life. I think these are essential discoveries in modern world however, I could live without air con, cellphone or any push button devices. I think that while some discoveries are essential, there are lot more discoveries that pushes human to be dependent on them. I think these are the reason why some humans today are considered lazy compared to the old times.

Getting back to the stone age will take as many years as it has taken for us to reach where we are today. Just as a thought has occurred to you about the benefits of living a simple life there could be many more toying with your idea and so it is not altogether an impossibility.

"The simpler, the better," as they say.
I'd like to go back to the time when enjoying the swing under that big tree of ours could already put a pretty big smile on my face, laughing out loud with friends at a mall or restaurant was the only remedy when I felt down, singing and dancing to our favorite tunes and basking in the sun at a beach were my vacation fillers.
Now, it's very much different. Technology certainly helps us in day-to-day activities. Trust me, I can't live without them anymore. However, all things boil down to having REAL HAPPINESS.
Before I talk about nonsense here, I wanted to point out that before happiness were much more genuine than today.

Living in a simple life is difficult. Been there, done that. I remembered when I first came back here to my mother's hometown, we did not have computers and internet. We cannot even watch television that much because my grandmother used to be the one who controls the schedule of watching TV. At first all I did was to roam around but I ended up staying at the house reading some of the encyclopedias they have. It was really difficult. I endured that kind of life for like 2 years. Now, since I am in college, life is different already. Technology is really useful nowadays but I kind of miss the life I had back then, the only problem is that it is a difficult yet simple life.

basing on the previous generations' standards, "simple living" simply means you can survive in the wilderness without gadgets.
it would not be wise to compare the way of life today and the way of life in the past.
of course, living in today's society may be too stressful for your grandparents since it is not the way they were used to live.
about several years from now, we would be feeling the same way too since we will be comparing now, and the future.
so basing from today's way of living, yes. one can live simply with the use of electricity, gadgets and technology.

I admit I cannot imagine my life without modern technologies. I used to go to our house in the country to have a rest from modern life. Since I have revealed that it is possible to get connected to the internet by the help of wireless devices, I use to work with my computer and surf the internet also in the country.

Yes, it still is possible. And some people are still living a simple life. Just recently, friend is inviting me to organize an outreach program in one of the communities. But more than the outreach, I feel that he loves going back there because of the goodness and simplicity he found in the people of that community.
Just last weekend as well, on our way home from a short break, my friends and I were discussing about our generation and that of our parents. We are one in agreement that life before was much more safer in terms of food alone as compared to now.
Now, how about me living a simple life? Hmmm...that I have to think about...kidding! Well, I think that as compared to others, I still live a simple life. My hometown alone doesn't have cable tv and internet and when I go home, I'm glad that I don't look for those :). So a simplified version of today's way of living, I believe I can .

I think I could. But, not for a very long time. A one or two months worth of living simply, and then back to the gadgets and stress and all. Then back to the simple life. I agree that life has become a lot more complicated because of these. But, maybe that's just the way things are. The more technology develops, the more complicated life becomes. Which is kind of ironic considering that all these inventions came about because we wanted life to be easier. Don't you think?
