Within social networks users are largely accountable for their own safety

Since last few days my pc is running dead slow, I ran virus scans, malware scans, but nothing helped, even my yahoo messenger failed to load. The technicians from Broadband of BSNL too checked, found nothing wrong. This happened after I had checked a mail that said, ‘“Find out who visits your profile,” in FACE BOOK. I did some research and got this information. It is NOT my referral link. http://blog.opendns.com/2011/05/05/facebook-who-views-your-profile-scam/?utm_source=nl052011&utm_medium=em&utm_campaign=home You may read the details: Understanding the Facebook "Find out who views your profile" scam by Allison Rhodes on May 5th, 2011 I reproduce a part here. The virus works first by gaining access to your Face book account. Unlike other methods for hacking, which involve somehow accessing your login credentials, this scam needs only for you to click a link posted on your wall or someone else’s wall. To entice you into clicking, the scam offers something lots of people would love to know, but Face book doesn’t allow: a list of people who’ve viewed your profile. You might receive an e-mail notification that tells you a friend has posted a link on your wall with this context: The most important thing to understand about this scam is that you should not click the link. If you don’t click the link and opt-in, the virus is rendered powerless. If you click the link, and you happen to be logged into your Face book account when you do, the virus immediately goes to work posting the same link and content on your friends’ walls. There’s no way to stop it in progress - the only way to repair the damage is to visit each of your friends’ walls one-by-one and remove the post, or message all and hope they haven’t already clicked the link, as well. Friends I have decided not to visit FB, in future. Hope you find this information useful too. Do you have a Face Book account? Did you ever face this? Please respond and share your valued opinion, Thanks in advance. Professor ‘*Bhuwan*’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Very useful information. I truly believe that it would be very easy to pick up a virus from a social networking site such as facebook. knowing little about trojan horses or any other virus come to that I would find it hard to take it off of my computer. I once went onto a site which infected my laptop and fortunately I was able to undo the damage. i would think that these sites are a haven for virus`s etc. maybe a little like the peer to peer sharing sites.

I have a Facebook account. I am pretty aware of things on all the sites I go on. If something looks wrong,I wouldn't go there! I have had freinds and family warn me about virues, trojans and the like! I have had computer issues in the past when it came to viruses! I try to be more careful!

I did get that message but that was received in my mail account which is not connected with my FB account. I did not open it but simply deleted. I have no interest in knowing who visits my profile.

Hi Professor Wow amazing how many bugs and virus show up daily on facebook. I do have a primary account there but I do not visit it hardly ever. I in fact barely ever use it anymore. I was telling my boyfriend just a few days ago that I was considering canceling the account because a great deal of stuff comes to my wall and I find them to be unnecessary. Thanks for sharing this information, I will pass along to many.
