PCSO chairperson, Margarita Juico is proposing to charge 20% tax on lottery winnings patterned after the United States tax policy. It would be a bad news to those who are addicted to play lottery like my father but if it will benefit the Philippines why not?

Hello Duds, I am not sure if it will benefit the people since it's usually go into the pockets of some employees or politicians. ALL THIS TIME i thought the lottery winnings aren't being tax. i guess i was kinda wrong this time. oh, well, we should consider the winnings, that's important, regardless of the tax. all this i've always thought of the winnings being taxed before you claimed it.

I guess you are right Mr. Knight, those PCSO officials are not having enough yet so they need to improvise on ways to "cut" MORE!!

if it would be transparent as to where the money goes.. then i guess it must be okay. but since we know where it would probably go... then i would say they should just not try and make some more money and commit another way of corrupting this system. before they even announce how much the pot money is, i think they already have considered their operation costs, their charities, like % of it should go where, etc and that what's left of it should go to the winners... i think they can just revisit this part in identifying whichever goes where... that should be fine rather than imposing tax on the winners.

Wow, is this greed overflowing or what? People nowadays would do anything to cheat other people to get more money and power. This is just one the many examples of greed shown by politicians in the Philippines. Why do I say that? Well, let's just say that I've completely lost faith in the Philippine government that I believe all politicians in our country are just greedy thieves.

I am not really sure if the people would like this at all- since not every time only one person wins the prize... But if it does help, why not- as long as no one steals the tax money.

i really dont agree to that because for one, everything we spend nowadays (food, clothing, etc.) are being taxed and about 50% of what we spend goes to taxes. now if they are going to put a hefty 20% tax on one lucky winner, than thats a lot of money. you know where all the taxes go and the president cant do anything about it even though he's doing something to take care of it. i really dont trust taxes because this year, they have increased taxes and the country's situation got worse. we all know 30% or more of the total taxes of the country goes to corruption and still they are not contended with their big mansions, pricey cars and the number of zeros in their bank account while the common people barely have a food to eat in their plates. believe me, theres no way this 20% will go to good hands, it will just go to some money-hungry politician.

I think it should. If money that we worked hard for is taxed, why not something that is received based on luck? I mean even our bonuses are being taxed once exceeded Php 30,000, how much more when you received millions in lotto prizes? It is good if it would be reverted to charitable projects and it really sucks if it would only go to greedy officials. The Philippines has very good laws, there is just the problem on implementation specially if those who will implement the law are thirsty for power and wealth.

Hmm... I am also an avid fan of PCSO. I try to bet my lucky set of numbers from time to time. Having to get 20% of the tax is big. I kind of don't trust the idea of passing it because even though this suggestion has not been raised, there are a lot of talks that lots of politicians have their pockets full with the PCSO money. So my take for this one is that I hope it will not push through. My aunt who went to the PCSO Charity to ask for help even fail to get help because for some reasons that we failed to understand. From then on, we have always been doubtful of the PCSO "charity" thing.

you must be watching TV patrol while mylotting, hehehe anyway, my question about that tax thing is :where will the tax go? to the government?" if it will go to the government, then there's a very big chance that the tax will just be corrupted. if only it wont be, and if only that tax will be used to help to poor or to make something that will help the country then what you said was right "why not?"

I guess some people would agree to that since some people think that it is unfair that laborers are taxed while lottery winners who just win by luck aren't. Well it's a good idea to charge taxes as long as the tax collected is truly put to good use.
