So I'm in college, and I'm considering switching my major to Psychobiology. I know the textbook definition about psychobiology, but I wanted to find out more information about it. Like what exactly is studied, what role psychobiology plays in the real world and everyday life, and what jobs someone with a degree in psychobiology can obtain? Please help, and thanks! :)

In the UK, Biology of the brain, psychobiology, has been added as a required/compulsory part of the Psychology degree, I found it very interesting myself. If you're trying to treat people and symptoms with chemicals, you must know what effect those chemicals have upon the brain. The reward system, acetylcholine, nicotinic receptors etc. they all impact upon the brain in different ways at different levels and locations. I would have thought that it has more clinical applications than anything, but look into it for yourself just to make sure :)

leonsan,
Thanks for the answer, it was really helpful! I do have a bit of a medical background so I can relate to what you are saying, but I think I am more driven toward research than clinical applications. I feel like psychobiology is still an effective way of helping people though.

While it sounds very interesting what are the job potential and what is the pay and benefits? These are things to consider. I know a girl who got a four year degree in General Biology and now has a job as a Veterinarian Assistant (she cleans up after the animals and feed them etc.) Talk to people in the field and recent grads to see what they are doing.
