Backpacking sleeping bag and tent.

I do a lot of backpacking with friends, but I don't have a good tent or sleeping bag. I can carry heavy weights on my back, but my tent and sleeping bag are too hard to fit into my backpack, so I have been backpacking less that I would like. I have looked online for a good sleeping bag, but there are so many. Does anyone have a specific brand of bag or tent that they use and or recommend?
