Washing hands

Last night I and Kalyani went to attend a wedding feast, we went by a bus. When food was ready we went to the hall, where food was served. Before eating, we washed our hands using good quality liquid soap; it was these near the wash basin.
But to my utter surprise, many women and men started eating without washing hands.
We always clean hands before eating, even my 3 years young granddaughter Subhee does it.
Good habits are to be learnt from childhood.
What is your opinion; do you clean your hands before you eat?
Do you train your kids properly, to learn good manners, good habits?
Please respond and share your valued opinion.
Thanks in advance.

dear dada,
It is always good to wash hands before eating and wash hands frequently when it is needed for our personal hygiene.
Maybe some people are used to-not washing their hands, and it is their habit so they don't care/bother to wash hands before eating or holding anything that needs washing hands first.
Regards to maa and shubee

I never eat without washing my hands with soap and water. If soap is unavailable, i would use a sanitizer which i always have in my bag.
We were taught that by our parents as well as in school. We also taught our daughter to be that at her early age.
Better to be safe than sorry, so the saying goes.

I wash before eating out, whenever it is possible, and of course I wash at home. Actually I wash many times because I usually am doing the food preparation. I also carry hand sanitizer with me. I have been to homes that do not have clean towels for the hands and this bothers me a lot. You are right, Subhee has learned well.

Hi. Professor2010. Yes, at home, I am teaching my kids to wash their hands. Sometimes they will become so busy and forget to, but they will eventually wash their hands. When I go out in public somewhere, I always wash my hands. I don't think that I could eat without first washing my hands, that is just so unclean if I didn't wash them.

not very often, to be honest.
I do most of the cooking, and wash my hands before, during and after cooking, so they're usually pretty clean.
if I eat out, or someone else cooks, no I don't. not if my hands aren't noticeably dirty.
I think TOO much cleanliness isn't good for you. people who have the cleanest houses, no pet, wash their hands a lot, seem much more prone to having allergies and athsma.
so being exposed to some germs is good for your immune system.

It is always a good habit to wash hands before eating. It will remove dirt and other things that stick to our skin.We always travel here and there and eventually it will cause dirt and other dust particles made stick to our hand.So it is good to wash hands before eating.

I have learnt working in the food business you have to wash you hands quite alot! So I do to avoid contaminating other food! So do the cooks and pantry workers. The supervisors are sticklers about that and I know they should be! We even train the student workers to do this! No one needs to get sick because some one was careless!

My father was a biochemist so he taught us since I can remember about what I would call "the unseen creatures". And we washed our hands and had to show them to my mother before we sat at the table. Thus, this habit was ingrained in my "hard disk" and I taught the same to my children. I don´t accept the idea of not washing hands because I´m going to use forks and knives. I do not even like to eat when I see unclean people.
My youngest daughter has to have a maid for her baby instead of taking her to a day care center because the people there many times use one spoon to give every baby their midmorning snack. Colds and flus are the results of this sharing
Have a nice day!

Hi Professor
So true dear we must always wash our hands before handling any type of food. It is quite important also when we handle young babies and others too, because germs are not good and can be passed easily.
This is a reminder to all of us, as although we do our best to always wash our hands, reminders are always welcomed.

Hi Professor,
You and your family have a very healthy lifestyle. I am glad that you are always seeing to it that even the youngest member of the family is living a healthy life.
I am not surprised by your observation. I love to travel and I have seen a lot of people who do that. Especially in fast food areas, they just quickly eat after ordering (picking the french fries by their hands for example). They don't notice that money is dirty too and it has lots of germs.
I personally like to wash my hands before I eat. I have a paper soap cut in small pieces which I use because not all places have soap. Whenever there is no water to wash available, I also carry a liquid handwash or wet wipes. Its difficult to be a jerk like me. My bag is heavier than the others.
So my friend, whenever you are in places that you can't wash your hands before eating, what do you use? Have a great day! Happy mylotting.

I agree with you, good habits are to be taught when you are younger. I teach my kids that everytime, they get ready to eat and after they are finished eating they need to wash their hands. And I make sure they know that it is a must and if they dont wash their hands then they get in trouble. Nothing harsh or anything, but I do make sure they understand that not washing your hands is how germs are passed on which can lead to sicknesses and they dont want to be sick so that helps.

My parents had taught me and my other siblings to wash hands before eating as it is for our personal hygiene. Washing hands habit should be cultivate since from young age. In fact, i never like to eat my food without washing my hands first. If a particular area don't have clean water to wash hands, then i will always use my spare spoon, which i always carried with me in my handbag. Sometimes, i also use the sanitizer to clean my hands.

Yes washing your hands before eating and after you touch dirty surfaces is a very good idea.I have seen so many people leave a washroom after doing number 1 and even 2 without washing their hands at all. This is really disgusting as they are not only having germs on their own hands, they will spread them when they exchange change or shake someones hand , or touch other surfaces.I hope that these people change their ways as this truly shows a total lack of care for personal hygiene.

People just don't seem to wash their hands even after using the toilet and that is the big shock and surprise for me. There have been so many campaigns encouraging people and educating them to wash their hands after using the toilet and to this day so many adults are still not doing it!

But do you observe that nowadays most of the meal should be used of utencils so sometimes they are not necessary to wash their hands specially if the foods prepared are not necessary to use bare hands. If the meal is need to use bare hands necessary to wash hands... Am I wrong foot or wrong idea... see you around
