As I have said, last night I had been to a wedding ceremony with my wife, we were there for almost three hours. While waiting for the food to be ready, we sat in the hall. One lady was sitting in front of me, she probably was suffering from cold, she had running nose, her eyes looked red, she kept sneezing, but always used a handkerchief in front of her nose, this prevents the virus that cause ‘common-cold’ from spreading.
I am told, a single sneeze sprays millions of the virus in to air.
Doctors say, there is no cure for ‘common-cold’, once the virus enters, it takes up to 72 hours, no medicines can cure it, and it goes of its own. The medicines doctors prescribe are for external symptoms like headache, mild fever, body pain etc.
What is your opinion?
When did you suffer from common cold last?
Do you use a hanky while sneezing?
Please respond and share your valued opinion.
Thanks in advance.

I suffered from a cold a couple of months ago and I always had a handkerchief with me when I had to get out,and I think that's what all the people who have a common sense should do.After all,it's very easy to give a virus to somebody else, but if we can prevent that from happening to others it is our duty to do so.I guess most people think about the others and try to avoid spreading their cold to others, but the truth is there are also many exceptions,so whenever we're in public transport or a crowded place the risk of being infected is high,so unfortunately there are instances when we can do nothing to avoid getting the illness.

dear dada,
It's a must to cover our nose when we sneeze.
but better use a tissue and throws after the sneeze.
The hanky will catch all the virus and if she hold the chair, railing or anything that she got to hold will be transferring all the virus still.
So much better to use a tissue and dispose after sneezing.
Anyway,it's still a good way of not spreading the virus-but since it's an air borne,we cannot void catching colds when it's season.
have a great day dear dada, and take care

Jai beta
Some use tissue paper and dispose off, you can see many using white pure cotton pieces, from used old saree or dhoti, one can use new throughly washed cotton clothe too.
These are dipped in water to which turmeric paste is added and stirred, next dried in shade, turmeric has excellent anti-septic properties, thus expenditure over hanky is gone, try it daughter!!

I work in food service. I have to wash my hands alot when I am handling food. Sometimes I wear vinyl gloves when I work with food or do dishes. My biggest probelm is I forget sometimes to wash the powder off my hands after I take the gloves off! When I sneeze or cough I do it in my elbow or shirt sleeve. Most people I work with do this. You really need to be careful when you work around food! We don't want to get the students sick that we service to!

hi,
that's why i always have my handkerchief in my hand or even in my bag or pocket because i cant sneeze in public without this, and i cant use my hand to cover it so advantage if i have handkerchief always in my hand.because i know that virus will spread after sneezing.

Cold - It is a very common thing in our family. But sometimes when it becomes serious then we rush to the doctor -- who prescribes some anti-biotic, anti-histamine and we get cured. of course whenever somebody suffers from cold he/she in our family uses a hand kerchief so that the virus may not spread knowingly.
In my case of course I have been taking antihistamine-Avil for the last ---years. Doctors also tell me "ok..u take it no problem." I have pulled on like that for -- years. It is a habit. But normal cold is said to be cured with medicines in one week and without medicine in 7 days. But the present day cold which comes out of deadly virus doesn't get subsided without medicines.
have a good day

Hello Professor,
How are you? Thanks for your good discussions. I find it very useful because being healthy is wealth. If we don't get ill, we save our money, we work more and we enjoy a healthy life.
I had a cold last January. It didn't go away quickly. it was on and off for the whole month. I was very tired and busy so it kept coming back. So I had to take a long rest to make me very well. I am resting and it'll be finish at the end of this month.
Whenever I am sneezing I also have a good habit of covering my mouth and nose. When I was younger I use a handkerchief when sneezing. I have a lot of hankies in different colors and design. But now I use tissue. I always have a pocket size tissue in my bag because I have an allergy. So to prevent the spread of virus I always prepare this.
Professor tell me, how about you? When was the last time you had a cold? And which do you prefer to use, a hanky or tissue? Have a great day!

I dont remember the last time I had a cold. I try very hard to prevent myself from getting them becuase I have a hard time doing anything when I am sick. But I was also told by my sons doctor that a common cold is to heal naturally. You can get medicines to help you feel better, but the cold is supposed to run its course and then its over. So the last time I did have a cold I didnt take any medicine I just let it run through and I was cold free after about 4 or 5 days.

Stay away from the handkerchief - hee hee!! Sometimes you have to watch out WHERE they put that handkerchief as well. Some will shove it in their pockets, others will keep it in their hand, some will place it on the table. I think it's very courteous that the woman used a handkerchief, but she really should have stayed home - she can be contagious and I doubt a handkerchief caught all of the spray that she sneezed/blew out. Even by talking people spit out bits of spray - a virus will find it's way to spread! Oh gosh, we've been suffering from colds since the beginning of the year. My daughter brings home viruses from school, my husband brings viruses home from work, and then my baby son and I get the cold last (luckily we don't suffer from it too heavily). So it cycles around the family - get over it - and then another cold enters. Honestly, I don't use a hanky while sneezing as I don't always have one in hand - but - you remind me it's a good habit to do so!!! Stay healthy!

Hi Professor
Yes indeed I always use tissue while I have a cold. Especially here at home because teh virus would bounce back and forth and become completely endless. If ever I do have a cold I would not have been attending the party as I would be afraid to infect others.

Yes definitely you should use handkerchief , also because disease like swine flu are also spreading now a days, so that also prevent from them.
Once you have cold then their is no solution to get rid of it, you have to bear it for 2 or 3 days at least, sometimes about 6 days.
You can take steam for fast relief.
Happy Mylotting.
