Today we find all different kinds of tablets availably in pharmacy, which function to relax people in stress and anxiety. Have you ever taken any such kind of medication. Do they work. Are they safe.....What is your opinion about this.

We should not use medicines for the relaxation, medicines reduces antibodies in the body, better you try to do yoga, a very good relaxation technique. Happy Mylotting.

when I am stress my medicine is drinking hot chocolate, eating chocolate and dark chocolate, or anything that has caffeine. Tea is also perfect or I eat ice cream. Something sweet I guess. I do not drink medicine. I never and never in my entire life drink medicine when I am pressured or stress, but when my head started to ache that is the time that I drink paracetamol because i need to lessen the hurt to be able to solve a problem. A good bath and sounding sleep can lessen my stress too.

Hello grecychunny26, I wish hot chocolate and dark chocolate could work for every one. Yes you are right, some headaches are too painful, and you have to take tablets for that. Thanks for all the tips. Have a great day.

There are a lot of anti depressant tablets available that help people relax in stress and anxiety. I am just now taking this strictly under doctors supervision. One should never get addicted to any kind of tablets. I take it only when the doctor asks me to and strictly for the number of days advised. Nothing more than that.

Stress and anxiety are two VERY different things. Medicines for stress would affect blood pressure and try to keep the person calm whereas anxiety is handled differently. Yes, there's an overlap (of course), but they're very different symptoms. Anxiety meds do work. They're very complicated and finding the right ones for you takes a while (everyone's different). There is also a risk of addiction as med strength increases - especially with benzodiazepines - so they are mostly prescribed for a short period of time. There are also anti-depression meds that work well with anxiety or stress. Bear in mind I've never taken any (I don't need to and would refuse to, preferring natural methods for whatever I suffer from - meditation, reduce caffeine intake, etc.) but I know people who've been on these meds for years. They do work, they are reasonably safe and the hardest thing is stopping them once they're started. These medicines are not a long-term answer (except in certain cases such as bipolar, etc.): they're a temporary solution, a crutch to get you through a rough time. They won't make the problem go away. For that, you need a better solution (remove the source of stress, talk to a therapist, etc.).

Oh, and I'd never, ever use something available "over the counter". Always talk to a doctor and get a proper prescription.

Hello SpikeTheLobster, Thank you very much for such a nice response. You explained the difference between stress and anxiety very well. Like you I have also never taken any of this kind of medication, but want to try and that is why I started this discussion. I knew someone will surely give me right advice and you did. So I thank you again. Have a nice day.

Have you tried lavender? Lavender essential oil? This is very good for relaxing senses and to calm down under stress. Just poor would drop is on to a cushion in the room or on a pillow in the bedroom and it sends should bring immediate relief from anxiety. By careful not to use it too much otherwise you become too reliant on it.

I don't trust pills for stress relief. Instead, I take the time to write in a journal (not type... write) about what's making me stressed and various ways to deal with the pressure of daily life. I've started reading more to relieve stress as kind of an escape as well.

No, I’ve never taken any medication to fight stress as I don’t think they are safe or that they work at all. Even if they do, they are causing more damage coz these medicines are just short cut temporary measures to provide immediate relief. Stress is caused more due to lifestyle problems so popping pills wont really help until and unless we’re able to change the way we live or work of react to situation. Also, if we have some time, meditation is the best way to deal with stress rather than taking tablets.

I have taken these medications and they really did not help me at all. I read that there are alot of side effects also when taking them.

Hi apsara! I think that anti-depressant medicines work, till the body can feel their affect. As soon as the affect of medicines gets over, the patience may again feel feeling of depression. No medicine is safe in the sense that every allopathic medicine has its side affects. I think best way to overcome stress is keep ourselves busy, as much as we can and we should sit idle. You know it very well - "an evil mind is devil's workshop"

hi a psara first off when I feel stressed I go to my primary care doctor and see what he thinks. I would never buy over the co unter crap that I had no idea what it would do to me. I trust my doc tor as he knows me well now. H prescribed light exercise and taking naps with my feet elevated and to go back and use the guided imagery that my diabetes educator had taught me. you pretend you are in this tough imaginary bubble that stress can not get through and you relax knowing stress cannot hurt you. this is much safer and better for you than medications with their side effects'specially if you like me are a diabetic. stress raises one's blood sugar. My opinon is we all take much too much medications for the least little thing that goes wrong with our bodies.
