Yesterday i ordered spicy vegetarian pizza because my friends came to my house. So when i ordered that pizza after an hour a guy came and knocked my door then i went and open the door. I saw that guy from Domino's and he bought Pizza that i ordered before. Then i took that box paid him with tips. I saw that box was in square shape but Pizza is in round shape. Then a funny question came in my mind, why does a round Pizza come in square box? Is there any idea guys?

For easier transportation. If the box was also circle it wouldn't be easily transported because there would be spaces around the box that would make the pizza and the box move around. However, if the box was square then it would fit the pizza container (the one where they put behind their delivery vehicles) and avoid movement.
In the same way, it's easier to make a square boxes than circle ones.
Have a great MyLot experience!

I guess the reason behind making the pizza containers square in shape is that the pizza box is square. And not the vice-versa. Gee.. All of us know that pizzas have been served in square boxes since decades, while pizza containers came way back when home delivery service was introduced. lolz. :p

Ok so i have the explanation for it. First of all let I ask why is the pizza round in the first place and not square? It is round so as to make the slices more evenly distributed. Because it the pizza was actually square then you will find it harder to cut the slices equally or close to equally. SO that answer the first question of why pizza's are round.
The box part now. I just feel it is much easier to make a square box rather than a round one. Also if you actually had a round box as well with a round pizza then the problem will occur of finding it dificult to take up the slices up pizza from in the box. What I mean is this, seeing that the pizza is round and the box is square then means than there will be space around the pizza where you can get enough room to place your hand under one of the slices and take it so, tastes so good. As for a round box with a round pizza. There will not be so much room to place your hand under and thus you will waste too much energy trying to take up the pizza, and you will start to get frustrated and that is the one thing the pizza companies doesnt want. They want to provide much ease of access so the pizza can finish faster and people will come back begging for more. So easier access, means quicker lifting of the pizza slices which also means faster eating of those pizza slices, which then leads to the pizza finishing faster and thus leads to buyers buying more.
All i can say is this: These pizza companies are smart. Places round pizza in square boxes. Just magnificent, they love showing off their intelligence.

The last conclusion that you made is absolutely correct friend. Pizza companies will show to the out side world that they are providing much larger pizza in it. But actually the reality is quiet different.
About the round pizza and box. If they mad round box also which should be little bit bigger than the pizza so that customers can easily pick up the pizza without any risk. Then why can't they make round box rather square box?

But then again I guess round boxers are too hard to make. Maybe the square boxes are much easier and machines are already out there that can make those boxes. TO make round boxes maybe someone would actually have to sit down and design a machine to do that. ANd then companies will not pay anybody any money to design those boxes when machines are already out there that can actually make those square boxes.

Probably it is easier to create a square box than a round one. Pizza nowadays are square shaped already. If the box is round, it is no longer a box hehe.

i guessed then it will loose that name and now be called just a cylindrical container. I dont know, I am just saying something. But then because how how the human society is, i bet nobody wont bother to change the name, instead everybody will still just call it a box.

The square package makes it seem bigger and so this the company's use to make it seems that you really have a great deal done for the ammount you pay, this is why the quare box is for :)
a round shape has missing corners so the proportions seems smaller and you won't be satisfied :D:p

Yes Original8, i think for business purposes companies will do this kind of tricky things. You can see that box is too big and inside that pizza will be very small. Even i asked so many times to the delivery boys whey they will do like this. but they don't have answer for that. They only will say that, no sir, pizza will come in this size only. I don't know what to say to them.

The question should REALLY be: "Why do they make round pizzas when they are to be fitted into a square box?"
Boxes are square because it is easy to make a box that way. Making a round box is far more difficult, more expensive and involves more waste of cardboard.
Pizzas are round because that is the way they have always been made and because people expect them to be round. It is just as easy and effective to make a square pizza as a round one (and they taste the same). The only real difference is that a round pizza can be cut radially and every piece has the same amount of edge or crust by which to hold it. It is not as easy to cut a square pizza so that every piece has the same amount of edge/crust.
If one were to produce square pizzas with the same area as the range of round pizzas currently produced, there would actually be a significant saving (around 10%) in packing materials and the deliverer would be able to fit more pizzas into his delivery basket.

Hi. lou_is. I think that it has a lot to do with the pizza being shaped into a round circle that makes the difference. It also has so much to do with, the pizza being able to fit the box the correct way without the pizza being off angled. It also helps the delivery guy able to carry the pizza the correct way.

Piya84, i won't agree with your response, if it is so then there won't be any kind of round boxes introduced in this world. There is no problem with the round box while carrying. It is all the companies intelligency to get the customers attraction by issuing big square boxes rather than small round boxes.

Its far far easier to manufacture a square box and all that is used is one piece of cardboard which is cut into the right shape and folded.Im not sure but i doubt you could make a round box out of one piece it would probably involve sticking pieces of cardboard making them weaker as they could breakk on their joints it would also make much more complicated so would take longer to make than square boxes so would cost more than square boxes.

it is a matter of convenience for the box maker. a square box, when moulded, then delivered is a flat square with "wings". this shall be assembled before use, of course.
if it is in any other shape, chances are, it would be too hard to cone up with a shape when it is flat in such a way as it would be safe from deformation when transported.
a square-shaped box is the most convenient shape there would be.
or so, i guess. lol.

A square box is more firm when closed than the round shaped box. of course with extra care both can be made firm. it is convenient to keep square boxes one over the other than circular shaped boxes one over the other.
have a good day

what a great question. I think the answer would have something to do with the amount of topping used. As well they size of the pan. Still I think it could be square, a round pizza has no edges to break off, so maybe that has something to do with it, no food waste, as well a square pizza may get burnt corners, so I think the round one cooks better. My brother used to own a food shop, so I asked him, he said it was the shap of the pans made for making pizza. hope this helps I will watch to see what others say

for easy transport.
boxes can be stacked neatly beside and on top of each other.
it also doesn't move around inside the bag they are put inside until delivery

Because Its easy to pick it up from the box and if we seen that the pizza will be in round shape box then it will fit to that box and not able to pick properly...

Why do rings come in square boxes? Why do they call chicken pox chicken pox when they don't come from chickens and the cure is to take a vaccine of cow pox? Why isn't the earth square? or the sun? or the moon?
