I love to cook, but all the people around me they prefer to go to restaurat... happy for me at least my family love to eat food I'm prepering... Each day we're trying to eat at least one meal together, if it's possible more often.
Do you like to cook? How did you learn? What about new generation, you think they'll be cooking? Is homemade dinner still important in your family?

hi lajonez,
i like cooking topic coz it is related as my save-money life as an international student. actually i do not like cooking because it takes time and energy to prepare foods. i just do not enjoy it. when i have more money, i choose to go out eating at restaurants. but most of time i have to cook to save money. I first started learn to cook last year, when i first came to US.
but i really appreciate people (family, roommates) who cook for me. i always praise their foods ( even though there are some bad tastes, but it's still okay), finish them, and say thank you to them as my ways to appreciate whatever they have cooked for me.
i think the new generations will still be cooking, since cooking is still the best way to get the healthiest customized foods. moreover, nowadays people are more aware of some diseases resulted from inappropriate consumption of foods such as diabetes and cancer.
back in my home country Indonesia, homemade dinner is still important. my family rarely gather only for dinner as my dad and mom come home in different time, but most of time we eat homemade dinner.

i have some girl friends that usually cook for me. and i like most of their foods.
for the bad tastes, i tell them to add some salt, sugar, water, spices, etc to make it taste better. but indeed, i will never say to them that their food is bad. because i need to appreciate their sacrifice of energy and time to cook for me.
so my point is: i give them critics in nice and respectful way:)

I do like to cook of course. My grandmother is my biggest influence in cooking so I learned a lot from her cooking ideas. Homemade dinner is very important in the family because it is the time where family bonding happens after a long day of work.

Yes, I like cooking. It is one of my interests. Although it is convenient to have a meal in the restaurants. But actually eating at home is healthier. Besides, it is lots of fun. And it can save money, too.
I love China

Hi. lajonez. I love cooking rather than going out to eat. At home, I have more privacy and I can cook my food the way that I would like to. I learned how to cook by watching my grandmother and my aunt cook. I do believe that when my children get older, they will know how to cook. I cook dinner at least twice a week at home. Most of the foods that I cook twice a week, lasts us long enough, before it is time for me or my husband to cook again.

Hi Lajonez,
I like cooking too. But I usually cook during weekends only because I do not have time to do it on weekdays due to work. I like eating out too and I would try cooking at home the food I ate at the restaurant. Sometimes it tasted better, sometimes worse. I learned cooking by just trying out the recipes and by watching cooking shows. I have this dream of enrolling at a chef school but my schedule just does not allow it. I think the new generation will still be cooking. My 5 year old kid is actually interested in cooking after watching that tv series where kids below 12 years old compete to be the winning chef. He tried cooking pancakes from the box. Homemade cooking is definitely important in my family. Fortunately for my family, even though I do not cook on weekdays, we have house help to prepare the food for us.
Happy cooking!

I have in my plans to go to cooking school. I have some recepies from my grandmothers and I would appreciate if my children (when I'll have them) they'll want to lear how to cook, to pass the recepies for another generation. I'm homemaker so I can enjoy my time in kitchen :)

No we mostly eat at home - it is cheaper than going to a restaurant. I like to cook if I have all of my family around but my son and I have an agreement that whoever reaches home first cooks. we are easy and if both if us have had a hard day then we may just something easy like an omelette

I live alone and not only make my own food from scratch but invite people for diner fairly often. When my husband was alive, we usually ate at home, except if we had an anniversary or a special outing with the kids that included lunch out (like going to the zoo).
I learned with a mixture of rcipes and the old method of trial and error. Now I think that the only difficult thing about cooking is to have to wash the pots and pans.

My friends who do not like to cook repay my invitations by taking me out to good restaurants. I couldn´t posibly go there by myself as its not on my budget. But I make gourmet meals for them so they oblige

that's amazing you're inviting people for meals, we also do this with our friends, we prefer to meet with them at home ans I'm always prepering food :) Our friends are not cooking and very often they're going to eat outside, so they love to come to us and eat some homemade meals, last time they said my pizza was much better than pizza hut :D I was so happy they loved it!

Whoever is able to cook at home they are truly blessed. That cooking aroma around the house gives it a homely atmosphere. Apart from the atmosphere home cooked food is clean and palatable. One gets tired of hotel food but what is cooked at home even if it is the same dish cooked every single somehow one can tolerate it.

What I meant was if you bring the same dish from a restaurant you will tired but not if it is cooked at home. Normally no one cooks the same dish every day!

in some way it's truth, but after some time you can get bored of one dish :P but yes if someone can cook, knows how and has time, that persons should do it, but now not too many people wants to learn how to cook, they prefer to go to eat in fast food restaurants and then they're having lots of problems with health :/

Hi there,
I have learned how to cook since I was 10 years old. In my culture it is routine and customary to have the girls in the kitchen at a young age. Many like myself also teach our boys to also learn to cook as well.
Dinner is very important in my home, it is the best time to unwind and bond with one another. In fact while my kids were still at home there was no eating outside of the dinner table and all together.

Nothing beats a homemade food. It is cooked with our desire to please everybody in the house, so it's cooked with love.
However, we order at restaurants in order to free us from the tiredness cooking has. After a long day work at the office, i would sometimes choose buying cooked foods than be preparing them still. I just want to eat already and be able to rest after that.
But given enough time and the stamina, i will still prefer to cook food than go to the restaurant, because they are healthier, palatable and done with love. We also get to save a lot of money when we cook at home, because we could cook a lot , so something could still be stored at our refrigerators and be reheated when the urge to eat it again , surfaces anytime.

Well, that's nice. We sometimes have to think ahead when it comes to cooking. At least, on the next day, you already have a ready food, which you could just reheat.

In our home sometimes we have "half made food" like some ravioli and then we're buying preperd sauce, then we have very fast meal and our favourite also, we love italian food, or sometimes I'm making food one day before if I know I'll have not time next day :)

i love to cook so much. I think it's fun to come up with new creations to try and that is something new for a change. It can get boring having the same meals all the time. when I cook for others they usually enjoy it except for some people who don't like spicy food, which i make sometimes.

i do love to cook. i love experimenting new meals. and you know, it is better to eat your own cooked food than eating at a restaurant. right now, kids are so focus into other things rather than cooking and it's quite amazing that i have found a cooking show wherein the contestants are all kids which age ranges from 10-15. homemade dinner is still a very important time into a family because this is when they can bond very well.

Here are of course all types of costs - cheap, expensive and average, but to eat each day outside I would be very expensive, I understand your sittuation, we're not eating in restaurants too often but even if we'll be millioners I will love to cook for my family and friends :)

Home cooked foods are still the best. They are prepared and cooked with love for all the members of the family to enjoy. Foods prepared at home are more nutritious and cleanliness is guaranteed. Since I like cooking I enjoy trying out new dishes for my family. Though we always eat homecooked meals, there are occasions that we treat ourselves to restaurant foods for a change.

I think cooking is still important. Although restaurants provide us with the convenience of eating, they may not be providing healthy food for us. Sometimes, they just add too many unhealthy ingredients in order to make the food tastier. However, cooking at home allows you to adjust the amount of ingredients so that you are certain that you have a healthy meal.

exactly, and also you can add only the ingriedients you like, because some reataurant are not allowing you to change ingriedients of meal, and if you dont like corn and this dish has corn you're going to have there corn... it happend to me few times :/
The worst in restaurant is about quality of meal, because mostly has too much fat, and at home you can control this easier :)

I like cooking except when i am tired.we seldom go out for meal, only once a while, because we think some of the food in the resturant are not so clean or healthy to eat,for the really good resturant it is always very expensive.we like to eat home,it is healthy and also save a lot of money, and you can eat what you want to eat, cook what you like to cook,it is also a happy thing that when your family like the food you cooked, right?

I like to cook very much. My mother taught me how to cook. She was so good at it, the flipping thing..she's like a real chef.
About the new generation, I hope they will love cooking especially when I'm having my kids, It'll be fun.
Homemade dinner will always be important to me but I don't know about my family. My brother and sister usually eat restaurant because of work. But, once in a while we eat together at home and it feels great. The homemade food, the bonding, the laughing, sharing of thoughts.

I do like to cook! I like to try out new recipes that I construct MYSELF, but only if I'm in "the mood" do I cook. Yes, home dinner is extremely important in my family - everyone sits down together at the same time, and we eat together, allowing us to bond more strongly together as a family. I think that whether the new generation is cooking or not is entirely up to their influences - friends, family, parents, and also their own views!

I also do that! cooking without recepie, just mixing some stuff from fridge, it's fun and sometimes this food is so amazing that we're having it again :)
yes, we need to show our children that family is important and tradicion of eating food together is helping to spend time together when noone has too much time.
