What do you do when you can't sleep at night?

And is there anything that can soothe you to sleep? Do you use any medications, and if so, what kind?
I'm usually on the net when I can't sleep at night, or I write poetry.
I also sleep with a fan blasting on my face every night. It doesn't matter what season it is. The noise is soothing to me.

I use to need the "white noise" a fan provides too raw. The hum of a fan puts me right to sleep. When I can't sleep I try to clear my mind, stop thinking. Rarely does it work. I have never taken a med for sleeplessness other than one time I tried NyQuil, it worked, but woke up in a fog.
Do you remember the episode of Seinfeld, "Master of your Domain", "King of the Castle"...do you remember, or know what I'm talking about? That works too! LOL!

Yup, I'm the exact same way. I do take medication but it's just for my nerves, and doesn't work much for the sleep anymore since I've been on it so long. I've done NyQuil, too, and I totally agree about the mornings. I hate feeling that way.
And I missed that episode from Seinfeld. Darn!

Sleeping is also a matter of daily routine. Daily routine should be observed with discipline. First chalk out the daily routines and spread your timings (leaving exceptional work). May be like this getting up,brushing, daily calls, exercises, bathing,etc.,-2hours,
morning prayers, tiffin etc.,-1hour, travelling and duty time-10 hours, T.V.,readings,writings,spending time with family & friends-3 hours. Then you have only 8 hours to sleep. That is sufficient including some extra work in a day. Maintain strictly fixing the schedule of timings. Donot take rest in between. Forget where you are sleeping may be on the bed or floor,no medications,no fan sound and nothing. Think of good things and pray god.

imagine a garden with a waterfall and imagine going for a walk. I never seem to get very far. I have a park bench in my imaginary garden and as soon as I sit down on it I fall to sleep

I never really have much problem sleeping anymore because my husband was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and he now wears a CPAP machine and he no longer snores at night to keep me up.
But now if I can't sleep, I just put my tv on and set the sleep timer for like 30 minutes. I normally am sleeping before it goes off.

I sometimes take benadryl or nighttime nightquill. Usually works. I have problems sleeping at night a lot. But usually if I turn on the ESPN channel I can fall asleep. But if I start watching somthing interesting it usually keeps me up.
