So, what if your bank accuse you as a thief, would you likely to take your business away from them. Yesterday, I listen to a radio, a lady went home and find out that someone withdraw significant amount of money from her bank account. She instantly report to her bank, and the branch manager transfer her to the claim department, and file a police report also. Later, the claim department personnel made assumption that she might let someone close to her to use her debit card. But when the lady request that if they can watch the ATM monitoring videos to find out, they said that they couldn't do that. Why they rule out that possibility that someone use skimmer at the ATM machine and duplicate her debit card, that could happen too. I think that lady should fight to the end. And she should never bank with this bank ever again after the problem solved.

I think the lady should fight for her identity also and reputation too. I would not bank with them anymore ither if they accused me of something I did not do.

If I am innocent, I would take legal action against the bank. But I would also be patience to wait for the bank to do their own internal investigation before launching for a court action against the bank. I would also look for the enemy within. It could be my friend, or relatives that want to prove smart due to their familiarity with me. anyway it is better to do a thorough investigation to know the truth.

Personally I would sue them and go to many major newspapers and channels like Sky News and the BBC with my news story. They cannot be sure - they are simply making a judgment on this lady due to her age. This is really unacceptable and there should be some type of compensation.

Their is definitely something fishy going on if they refuse to look at the security cameras. If their was nothing to hide they would've been able to show it with no hesitation to prove what they are saying to be true. The woman should seek legal help. She already has the upper hand over the bank because they are accusing her with no evidence being shown. She can fight their claim and she can probably sew for discrimination of some sort.

For that woman case, well its hard to whose who is the right or wrong, its hard to tell. We don't know much informations of what really happened. Like how much money involved or lost. The Bank may be right also in that case and the Woman can be liable of what she have done to the Bank reputations.
But on the other case, if the Bank accusing of me as a thief or any other malicious mischief, as Napoleon Bonaparte said "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Never tell your enemy he is doing the wrong thing. Let Him Sleep. For When He Wakes, He Will Move Mountains."

Strange, if ATM monitoring videos are not used for the purpose of investigation, then why do they need those monitoring videos? It doesn't really make sense. I think they should make a thorough investigation before ruling out that possibility.

Personally, I think there is more to the story, as there are two (or more) sides to every story. I'm sure the bank has reason to believe that her accusations are fraudulent. If they go to court and she requests the video survalance, it would help her I'm sure, but back to the topic at hand, if I knew that I had no given my card to anyone, I would do everything I could to prove my innocence (so to speak) and I would not bank with them or any of their branches and tell everyone I knew about their wrong doings.

yes, there's a great possibility that someone close to her could have used her debit card, without her knowing it.
But as to the lady's request , why can't they do that? They have video for the past days, so they could simply review them. But then, how would they know if what is being used is the lady's debit card?
Or i suppose, the lady would like to see a familiar face she suspects to have used her atm card?

She should sue the bank for oral defamation. Bank's accusation against her without clear evidence unnecessarily besmirched her reputation causing her to feel humiliated.
Fortunately, my experience with banks is well. Once, I withdrew my money using ATM, however, the ATM did not dispense the cash. I immediately went to my bank and informed them of the incident. The bank, in all fairness, acted on my complaint. A week after, the amount was credited back to my account.
