Voices in the night

I have a lot of cats. My friends here know that. But as strange as it seems, I know most of their voices. So, when I heard a voice I didn't know I had to turn on the light to see who it was. Much to my shock it was Emily. Yes, the feral tabby girl. And she was desperately trying to get Tony to love on her! Tony isn't one of our more cat oriented cats, he's definitely a people cats. Honesty, it was funny to see her rubbing on Tony and him taking swings at her. Not so hard as to hurt her, but trying to discourage her. (I didn't inform him that he'd get rid of her by joining me in bed.) Gosh, are they 2 already?

Cat behaviour never ceases to amuse me. I could watch them interact for ages. Unfortunately they only d it for a while, then they curl up and go to sleep!

with all my cats, if I wanted to, I could probably find something going on most of the time!

That's c ute. Except Tony won't stand for it. I hope she doesn't get injured! Or maybe one day he'll give in. We'll have to watch the love story unfold!

Mitten fell in love with Gnu and used to follow him around. He looked rather like W.C. Fields looking back at her like "Go away, kid, quit bothering me." Tony is closer to Emily in age than Gnu and Mitten - only a little over 2 years where Gnu was closer to 5 or 6.

Princess will speak, and look right at us, and expect us to know exactly what she is saying. It is pretty easy, usually it is "Out". Did I tell you that at one time when I was growing up we had 32 cats and kittens, most of them Siamese? My mother was under the impression that we were "breeders" and selling them for $5 a piece would make people be nice to them. The one mama that did not have Siamese babies would go around and steal kittens from the others. ALL the kittens. We were given a litter that needed a surrogate mom, and got her some babies that were white, and she quit doing that.

No, your mother "breeding" is a new story, but that's funny with the one cat wanting Siamese kittens! My brother's ex wanted puppies so bad she brought home a kitten once.

I think it was funnier that his ex wanted puppies. Animals are strange, but people are moreso. Mom and dad raised parakeets before we did the cat thing. I remember dad building a huge cage and lots of little nest boxes. I may have been four, but more likely I was three. I wanted to have baby chicks, so I stole an egg (banty egg at that) from the refrigerator.

LOL. That is funny. Poor Emily. She just wanted some attention LOL. Pets sure do grow up fast. It seems like yesterday that we got our dog but he will be 2 very soon also.

I know, I felt sorry for Emily because I knew she just wanted a buddy, but Tony, as sweet as he is, just isn't that into other cats!

Aww...she loves Tony and he won't give her the time of day. I have the four teacup chihuahuas and the miniture Schnauzer and I know their voices too..lol..I also know them based on emotion. Like excited..scared...my Eva actually screams when she is scared..lol..my daughter was dressed up for that haunted attraction she was working at and ahe came through the house and my little Eva started screaming! I was amazed..lol. Poor baby. Maybe Emily will change Tony's mind eventually.

I scared my brother's dog once, I dashed through mom's in my "Doctor" costume and when I came back inside the dog (springer spaniel/lab mix) was SITTING on my brother's lap (my brother is ONLY 5'6)

How very cute that you can recognize their voices. Gosh I wish I could have pets in my apartment but the land lord will not allow it. How very cute that they love the attention with you.

Warm Banjo - Banjo decided it was much nicer in my lovely warm bed than anywhere else. Although when he's in it....it becomes HIS bed. LOL.
That makes a funny picture Elic. The time sure does go quickly. Banjo will be 5 in October! I took a photo of him in MY bed this morning....it was really cold and he had been there most of the night too. LOL

I wish you could send some of that cold here - its already miserable! It was funny. Star, our oldest feral, loves Solo, who puts up with the rubbing and stuff, but Star is about 11 and Solo turns 7 later this month. It usually is a younger cat loving an older one...

IF I had a camera, I couldn't have shot it from where I was laying and to move would've caused Emily to spook, she had to stop and stare at me a few times just to be sure I wasn't going to get up and move.

Blue cats aren't generally known to care for other cats. I've got my second blue and she just hates the other cats, my first one didn't like one of the other cats, and since I only had 3 then...

well here's the funny thing-when we got the "kittens" (who are now 11)he seemed to 'adopt' them both-to the point of grooming even.which is slightly odd for a tom.granted i kept them sequestered from the other cats til they were big enough to defend themselves, but they also seemed to think he was dad.it was kind of sweet.

Awwwww poor Emily.... hopefully in time Tony will give in and be her friend. They obviously have to work it out themselves and they will but it's so sad to see one wanting to love the other and the other doesn't want any part of it. It goes to show (the unfeeling idiots) that cats DO have feelings. All animals have feelings for that matter but this is one indication that shows that they do. Has Tony lightened up some by now?

not that I've noticed, but its only been over night, I think she's upset because Elmer cuddles with Rygel and there's no place for her...

I wish I could've, but the light wasn't that good, and it would've disrupted the scene if I had shifted around to try and film it.

I read somewhere recently that cats can make about 90 different sounds, but dogs can make only 10. If that is the case, why don't people try to get cats to talk instead of wasting their time with dogs?

Emily is very wild, so she doesn't want anything to do with us humans, and she was spayed at 6 months, nearly 18 months ago

Ahahahaha! a cat's romance..shishishishishi! cats are really funny specially when they got in heat. I remember my neighbor's cats way back before when they in heat they're too noisy at night. Sometimes my cousin got afraid when they heard it because the voices are mostly like humans that nagging up. Geez! Sometimes I laugh when I saw a male cat in which it will not mate the in hate female cat. Sometimes the female cat will aggressively make a move but the male cat of my other neighbor will bit her. Ahahahaha! I always think that cat is a gay! until now I smile when I do remember it.

ahh, but she's not in heat, I fixed that 18 months ago! I have no idea why she suddenly decided Tony to be the object of her affections! Maybe he was nice to her by accident... CATS!

Unrequited love. How sad for her! Was she in heat? I had a male cat that was fixed and a female that wasn't. Every time she would go into heat she would try and get him to mate with her. He tried (probably just to shut her up), but he had no idea what he was doing or what she wanted. It was very funny, but probably not for her.

no, we got the ferals fixed about 6 months, like all the rest of the cats... I really have no idea why she decided to fixate on Tony last night, she's generally found near her brother, Elmer - tho he's really gotten cozy with Rygel lately. I seldom see Elizabeth, their black sister, but I actually saw her this week too. She's never with the pair of them, go figure.

Isn't it amazing how we can recognize our babies by their voices? I have three cats and they all have very distinctively different voices. Chester is very manly and has a good strong masculine voice while Misty is very feminine and her voice is higher pitched and dainty. Then there's Smoky who squeaks! The other night I heard a voice I didn't recognize in the dark, too. It was too deep to be Misty but too girly to be Chester and I knew Smoky could never sound that loud! I turned on the light expecting a strange cat from outside that had slipped in through my open window! I was relieved to see Chester. Apparently he was in a mellow mood, eh? LOL

yeah, I used to have a cat who almost ALWAYS said "eeeee" the first time he actually "meowed" I had to stop and STARE at him! I have a lot of Siamese mixes, but they all sound different. But Emily's sounds were very sweet, just very unfamiliar!

I also like cats. I have two lovely she-cats, mother and daughter. One of them is 15 years old. They used to live at my grandmother's house, but she does not live in the country anymore. In winter we took the cats to the flat, but in summer they are glad to return to the countryside and enjoy the nature:).

Emily is about 2, Tony turned 4 sometime last November, but it was funny watching Emily rubbing on his trying to get him to love on her mind you, they are both fixed and LONG before they had any idea of "kittens" so that's not part of it...
