Were you an organized student?

I think to an extent that I was(and still am). In the days before the Internet and computers were commonly used, I had folders for every single subject, assignments filed away neatly in them, five subject notebooks, with notes for each subject in their own section. It did make studying for a test(what little I had to do to brush up), rather easily, as everything was in its place and everything got turned in on time most of the time. So how about you? Were you an organized student or did you have needless clutter?

hi megamatt,
I never become an organized student because I tend to study only what I like in different times and situations. i was a business college student in Indonesia, but I read more politics than business books. I could find my sudden desire for biology or geography when I was dealing with accounting homework. then I usually left that accounting homework and started to read biology or geography book.
recently coming to US for study does not make me more organized. furthermore, faster and easier internet access here enables me to jump freely from one subject to other subjects in the near time. sometimes i even just watch video and pictures of subjects which have nothing to do with my real subject at school.
well, i just have to make my self more disciplined and focused in field of study i am learning now.

It really can be a huge step to try and get your feet firmly on the ground when studying. And let's face it, only some of the people try and out of those people who make that attempt, only a handful really truly succeed. I do wish anyone who is trying to get more organized with studying the best of luck. There can be a lot of times where you are really fighting an uphill battle and it can be something that is rather tough to do to say the least. Especially now more than ever before with the way everything is.
I think that the hardest part is knowing where to begin and when there are so many different directions that you can do, I really do think that its a hard thing to determine. We all have to start somewhere, but it is precisely where that is a really sticking point with a lot of people around the world. That is really one thing that is universal, where to really start and the chance for it not to really got as planned. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

hi megamatt, you're welcome.
i think i have started many different studies without finishing it completely and officially. except for business major of which i got my bachelor degree.
now every time I want to study other things, I just remind my self about the good reasons why i choose the major that i'm studying now. when i remembered those strong reasons, i would want to stay in my major.
Have a nice day.

I wanted very much to be a organized student. I had many files for each different subjects. It really helped when there's a test the next day or when i need to just check some details.
However, sometimes, i get really messy too. Just stacking every single thing on my desk. I get especially during exam period when after reading something, i would just chunk it aside on my table. and when i need it again, i would spend a lot of time just to search for that time.
I do that it would be more conductive and better for me should i be neater, but i am just not determined enough. sometime i get lazy and therefore don't bother to file my worksheet up.
I want to be a organised student, but sometimes i still find clutter all over me.

That is really something that's a huge point about trying to remain organized. There are times where it is a constant battle to really get organized to say the very least. There are a lot of times where I really feel like throwing my hands up into the air and really throwing all caution to the wind and just trying to go with the flow. However, I really do know better and the fact remains that I really am shaving off a lot of time, no matter how much time it really takes to stay organized.
That is really something is obvious about organized and really you can see why a lot of people are far from organized. There are many times where people try to stay organized, but eventually give it up. Because it does take a lot of concentration, not to mention a lot of discipline to say the very least. Therefore, it really is something where you just got to buckle down and really get everything that you need to get done done and stay organized. Its not going to be easy, and you're right, you still find clutter, even if you try and be organized. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

You are right, being organised takes a lot of concentration and a lot of discipline. I believe this is something that i lack of.
Yes, staying organised definitely have us to save time ultimately. It's easy to do one wrong thing and let the whole organisation to fall apart. But it takes alot of patience and determination to get the whole thing in place and to maintain it!
Megamatt, I should really learn from you!

I am still a student and although my workplace is very cluttered, I always know where everything is, and I have always completed the work well before the deadlines for each of my assignments. I like to work like this, as it means that there is always time to make small changes if I find that there is something that I could do to improve my work.
I will never understand the people who manage to leave it until the last minute, sometimes until a couple of hours before the work is due in, because surely it makes more sense to get it done because it gives you more time to relax at the end of it. When I have an assignment to do, I can't think about anything else and feel like it's almost hanging over me, so it makes much more sense to do it as soon as possible, and get it out of the way.

I am with you on the other way with people who do things at the last minute. That is just inviting a lot of trouble, not to imagine the fact that I would rather have things out the way. Plenty of time to kick back and take it a bit easy, when everything is done. I tend to aim to get things done rather early. That way, if something goes wrong, I have far more time and a lot less to stress out on. There is nothing like losing your mind over something and obviously wishing that you had started it sooner. I have seen people have freak outs and really they have no one to blame for themselves with their poor time management skills.
Plus by getting it done early, you have a lot of time to touch it up like you said. There are times where you can really look at something, make it more polished. Something looks a lot more perfect when you're mind numb after working on it. Coming into things with a bit of a fresh perspective, can really allow you to make it look a lot better and it does come out to be a lot more solid in the end. Therefore, be organized and if you have problems, at least you have a few days, as opposed to starting with a few days left. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt
The student days were great and unfortunately I spent less time attending the classes at the college. Instead we (me and my group) used to go out for social works - like organization of blood donation camps etc at the slums and other places, spend time on getting things arranged for masses - be it the college canteen or the park at the campus... But yes, we did find time to study during the days of the exams and I think that our other (if you can call those as extra curricular activities) did help us in getting some better arrangements.
The clutter was quite less as there were always less days to study and also a few friends would always chip in with their inputs to save us so many other accounts of messing up

Looks that you had some kind of system down. That is a good thing. I think that I felt like I was part of the evolution of how things were done in school and I went from organizing things with folders and notebooks to organizing everything on a computer. It is really one of those things that has changed over the years and potentially for the better. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I'm a pretty organized student. But my handwriting is a bit messy. When I try to write fast for notes, it turns into chicken scratch.
I usually had all my papers separated by dividers in one notebook and;or folders and even a planner. I still do.

My handwriting was rather awful. I really think that a couple of teachers celebrated when I got a computer and started doing most of my homework on there. I really think they did. Not that I can confirm it. However, back in the days, there was folders, notebooks, pencil case with everything I needed, and of course the always legendary, Trapper Keeper. Those were in fact the days. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

There are just going to be a lot of people that are like that. A funny story is that I'm organized as a student and in my professional life. In my personal life, it is really a different time. I think that it is really something that is a contrast of insanity, and it is like two different people a lot of the time. My closet in particular is really something that is an adventure to get through a lot of the time. There are times where it feels like I am fighting my way through a jungle. That is just one insane thing. I guess all of my organizational efforts went to excelling in school and my professional life and everything else went out the window. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

In the end, as I've said, if whatever you did works for you, then that is really something that is just good enough. There are a lot of people that really fall flat on their face, in their attempts to really get organized, and then there are some people who just never really get organized despite their best efforts. I think that if you are going to do achieve whatever grades you feel are satisfactory, regardless, then that is just more than fine. Everyone really does work different and its what works for them.
Organization is in the eyes of the beholder in the end. For some, it is a gift from above and they really do need to do to do it to keep on track of things. Then there are other people, its going to be a burden and they work just as well not doing it. Then there are other people who find a happy medium and that is really good enough for them. In the end, whatever they are going to accomplish is through their own methods. If they still do well enough without being organized, then good for them. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

That is very true, organizational skills that are learned during the school days, they can really be something that can used in life. When you really think about it, the actual formal education process, is only the beginning of the educational process that is in fact life. Therefore, it is just a rather wonderful thing, to learn to be organized right off of the bat. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day.

I was pretty organized, but I could have been even more organized, I think. I still had really good grades, though, so even if I wasn't the most organized student at all times, it didnt really harm me...

Yeah there are a lot of students who did fairly well, even if their organizational skills were far from the very best. However, there are a lot of people who do need to be organized, otherwise they are completely lost. I really do think that there are a lot of times where different people really do tend to work in different circumstances rather well. Some people need an obscene amount to get organized, some can be partially organized, and others really can get away with not being organized at all.
In the end, I think whatever works for you. If something is working for you and you are getting good results, don't mess with a good formula. There are times where I think that it could be better, my organizational skills but really, there are countless times where you can try and be better, but you are really getting a lot worse and can make things that way. So any way you can get good grades, then its good, its really good. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt,
When i was at school i never really did that well in my subjects, i really do regret that now and so i was not organised at all in anyway. I guess as i never showed much interest in school then for me to organise things would have been a little strange. Luckily i did later go onto college and turned my life around so much. I made many different changes and put my college life first, i was so organised in everything i did, including assignments we got that would need to be handed in several weeks later, i would do them in a matter of a couple of days, that way i knew they were done then i could enjoy my free time without having to worry. So glad that i organised everything and changed when i went to college as this did help me get some great grades, i guess i did work hard enough for them but to be organised did make a massive difference. I guess you could say that when going to college i really did "grow up" and realised that to suceed in life changes needed to be made.

I really think that there are many people who wish that they had taken school a little bit more seriously and been rather more organized. Really, even though I think I did well for the most part(good in some cases), I really think that there are points where I was just lax and lazy and really not able to get anything really done the best that I could have really done it. At least that was the impression that I really could have done just a little bit better. And sometimes a little bit better is a difference between one letter grade and another.
Still I'm just glad that I was rather organized. There are a lot of people who were not and there were a lot of regrets. Then there were a lot of people who were, who just wondered whether they could really have done a little bit better. At least that is the impression that I had gotten a lot of the time. When people get to college a lot of the time, I agree that they try and set things straight, although it can really be a slap in the face about how much you really do wish that you should have done. It can be quite sobering.

i am very unorganized as a student. my texted books when ever i have them hold my papers. I havent spent a second on homework this whole term. I think if i was a more organized person in general i would be better off but im lazy. I also dissagree 90% with the school system the only thing i agree with is the idea of everyones right to education. they dont allow you to listen to music or use you ipod as a calculator even with advance calculator apps. i dont see why we have to copy notes when all half the teachers do i read from the book. i can take a picture with my ipod and refer to that its not a big deal. school takes up way more years of your life then nessesary and they plow you in the ars with homework. I understand not everyone can ace test like i can without doing all that but i refuse to spend hours of school after school. It's all bs and i know ill do fine with enough effort. i was dissapointed my chemistry teacher was so absolutely terrible but i guess not im going to be a cook instead of chemical engineer...... oh well?

There is a point of a lot of school being quite frankly repetitive. Especially a lot of the early years. True story, I think that I had about the same math class, from the fourth to sixth grade years. With maybe a couple of things differently. There was really no repetition. Then you got those teachers who are just there to collect a paycheck and aren't qualified. Really do feel bad for those teachers who are talented and able to teach. Still it doesn't appear to be changing any time soon. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I am an organized student, but to an extent I am a little bit perfectionism. I just want my things to be organized very well. I don't write fast because I enjoy writing and messy notes makes me not interested at all, without exception.
Also, I have many reference books that look like "newly bought" but actually not. I don't know why I just make them very clean without any extra notes / highlighting. I will blame myself if there is any bad looking (e.g. scars) on my books.

I think I was organized but not too obsessed to the level of perfectionism. Then again, I knew a lot of people that were and I'm sure there were people who were only slightly less organized then I was, most likely, they thought I was taking things a bit too far as well. Then again, it is really something that varies from person to person. Everyone does have their own opinions on being organized. I tend to make things look nice and tidy has possible, even though it does not work out as planned. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
