I dont see any reason why people will give a damn on a small, etiquette mistake imposed by the uptight Royal family. Raising a glass to a person is a sign of cameraderie and respect in America, so if Obama raises the glass to the Queen, it is just his instinct kicking in. No harm done, no disrespect whatsoever.

Well, he treats people in this country like that and with such little respect and we all accept it, so he thought he could get away with the same conduct in England. He has no respect for others.

I didn't like the guy but when he made fun of Arizona trying to secure their borders with his "what do they want? A moat? Maybe they want us to put alligators in the moat." That was the final straw for me. NO president should disrespect the american people like that.

respect is one of the building blocks of society. If a man has no respect for others, then what is he but a piece of nuisance in our midst. thanks for the truthful comment coffeebreak :)

Hi Goldenplanet, I think he is too arrogant.
There are so many experts working in the White House, and they could have helped him get it right.
He is not the first and only president to dine with the Queen.
Others could have guided him on what to say, how to say, and the proper behavior.
He probably thinks that he knows what to do, and nobody should guide him.

Nice one scheng1, and yes! arrogance is one of his faults here....second i think is his stupidity and third his failure to sense that something is wrong :P

Yes, I heard about this incident too- but the Queen didn't mind much, did she? What was the mistake though? Did he forget his speech or did he say something weird? Well, everyone makes mistakes, even the most respected and serious ones.

you have a very good point here, we all make mistakes who doesnt? :) but the thing is, he is the president of the US and every little thing he does will be magnified, especially the little mistakes he does will be magnified by people who are against him. Unfortunately, many people are not happy with Obama being president so this little mistake he did in front of the royals is something his oppoents would feast on like an appetizer to their savoury meal. :)

Yea unfortunately he is really not my favorite at knowing how to behave in certain situationas.
I think if I was honored to see the Queen, I would have known all the rules and customs before meeting her. This was his second chance to get it right after his wife made her mistake.
Yep we sure got hope and change!

i haven't seen that incident, but reading throught the responses, i am thinking that the mistake was giving a toast to the queen? If that is so, i don't think it should be a big deal and something to be ashamed of by Obama. That gesture of giving a toast is actually a positive thing for me.. . (in my opinion only )

Everyone can make mistakes the queen of all people should know that prince phillip has made more than his fair share.Infact the queen quite likes the obamas and last time she met them she told them to keep in touch. In fact its not really that big of a deal in the uk his speech on the special relationship or as he called it the essential relationship has been scrutinised much more.

No one is above mistake, if there is a mistake as you are trying to point out. It is not that too bad.
