Sunset or sunrise?

In my travels in tropical destinations I have seen some glorious sunsets. Just before the dark the sky turned a deep orange and the sun went lower into the sky until it looked like it disappeared. The best sunrise I saw was from the top of a Mayan temple at Tikal National Park. The sky had turned so many different colors. Then the jungle came alive with the sounds of the animals. Two colorful parrots flew past and monkeys were swinging in the trees.
I have been to many different tropical destinations. Most of all I adored seeing the Samoa in the South Pacific Ocean and the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. I loved going to the Cook Islands, Fiji and French Polynesia. I liked seeing the tiny tropical islands in the Maldives. Arriving in Caye Caulker in Belize I saw a fantastic sunset over the Caribbean Sea.
Have you seen many sunsets?
What do you like about sunsets?

In India the best sunrise could be seen in Darjeeling. One needs to be up early morning and travel as far as the Tiger Hill and watch the sun rise. Once on top of the Tiger Hill one gets a clear view of the Kanchenjunga mountain range and this range is totally hidden from view till the sun starts to rise. As the sun appears, the mountain changes color and is known to be an amazing sight. It is the third highest mountain in the world and Everest is viewable in the distance. As the sun rises it appears as though the sky is strewn with mountains. One has to be lucky as if it is cloudy the sun hides from view and that is what happened to me.
We were there on top of the Tiger Hill around 4 in the morning and missed that beautiful scenery. The image attached shows what I missed.

But what I see from my terrace every day more than compensates for what I did not see in Darjeeling.

I love sunsets and I always find time to watch them whenever I am in a place where beautiful sunset could be viewed. This is the reason why when I choose a beach I always ask if I could view sunset there. I think sunset which marks the end of the day has a story to tell. It tells me that God has been really good because He kept my day lighted all day and now that He is about to set the sun, its setting still leaves a beautiful promise. The promise that it will shine again the next day to light my world once again.

maximax8,
I have been to many destinations mentioned and I do agree with you that the sunsets are really magnificent.
But, I just have to add that they are more beautiful and enjoyable when my wife is by my side enjoying every moment of it.

A good sunset can really move you and that one at Tikal sounds truly awesome! I have seen some lovely ones. Probably the best ones were in Thailand in Phuket and also in the Cribbean but, I have also seen some really nice ones here in the uk although I love the sound of seeing one in the jungle where then animals know the evening has set in and makes them come alive as darkness descends!

Hi Maximax, I have seen the sunset in Tikal too, and many other in the jungles here in my country, and it is indeed a beautiful experience, I donĀ“t know the time of year when you see this, but in the rainy season, when not a rainy day, of course, the sunset is even more beautiful, maybe all the humidity in the sky, or whatever reason is more spectacular. Sunrises are another beautiful moment in nature, by the sea, is another nice place to be observed.

Okay... the MOST tropical I have EVER been was Galveston Island...
I remember looking over the Atlantic Ocean at a lovely sunrise on Long Beach Island New Jersey in 2002. The surf was low, and the clouds looked like banks each catching a different color of the sun. Then it peeked over the horizon and made low golden streaks across the sea.
Now, off the Oregon coast I witnessed a beautiful sunset once. We were up on the cliff over looking the ocean and the sun painted the clouds all kinds of colors and made a long orange path across the ocean.
That whole trip up the west coast was almost like a lovely dream - probably didn't hurt that my brother WASN'T along!

I remember having an afternoon flight from Manila going to Cebu. My flight was supposed to be at lunchtime but was delayed so the whole afternoon, I was uneasy and frustrated. Finally I boarded the plane at 530pm. That was the first time I saw the sunset from the skies. Seeing the sunset through my window took my breath away! It's as if the sky was divided into two, like yin and yang. Thank God for the delayed flight!

I watched sunset 3 or 4 times from a beech which is almost near to our place. Watching sunset is a wonderful view. Stress has become a part of our everyday living. We can relieve our stress by watching sunset. It gives pleasure not only to our mind but also to our body.

I could almost just imagine what a sunset looks like, I've never seen a sunset or a sunrise. But, I know in my heart that it is beautiful to look at. By the way you described it, it makes me want to go to the nearest beach and look at the beautiful sunset or sunrise.

I've seen some spectacular sunsets that took the breath away. But I think sunrises are more moving.

I prefer sunrises, as the beginning of a new day is always better than the end of another one.
The most beautiful sunrise I remember was in Australia. We went to see the Uluru, and watching this huge red mountain surrounded by a wonderful, coloured sky was probably one of the best experiences in my life.
I've seen many sunsets as well. My favourite was the Fiji sunset: the sun disappearing slowly below the horizon (as if it were going into the see!) painted the sky with an amazing scale of colours, from light pink to deep red.
The sunset in South Africa was also great. We were out on a safari to see wild animals, and we saw elephants drinking as the sky turned red. It was quite quick, and darkness came almost immediately, but I still remember that scene quite clearly.
