Hello there, sjvg! I noticed that your star had dropped from green (5) to brown (4) since yesterday as I looked back on albert's discussion that you have responded. As mysd had already mentioned, it can affect your participation earnings. You can read on the page she had told you to learn more about discussion rating system, the effect of rating to user's earnings and on how to increase your rating. The best way to help increase your rating is to keep on posting quality content. Your rating got dropped maybe because some user/s gave you a negative rating. Anyway, if the user puts a negative rating without a valid reason, it may also inflict his/her own rating. Have a nice day!

Read my explanation above. New users go up and down like cucumber sandwiches!
Got a new phone eh? Won the lottery?

just got my new phone after a long hibernation again oh, something wrong with my post. I noticed it yesterday that it turned to violet (4) and now to brown (3). Maybe someone is trolling the discussion starter, isn't it?

Yes, and this is stated in the FAQs:
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx
It has also been witnessed by those Lotters (myself included) whose star fell from a higher level to a lower one.
We should be aware of how to use the ratings system correctly because if we mis-use it then it could damage our own star too. Many users seem unaware of this but abuse of the negative rating does not go unnoticed and often when a star takes a fall it is not only because others have rated our posts negatively - this should be something for everyone to think of when rating
If a user with a 10 star posts a topic/response/comment then their post will earn more than the same identical post written by a user with a lower star will.
Your star is low and in teh FAQs you can see suggestions by myLot to help it increase. Please read what I said here too

Suny the overall result of the star is based on percentages.
It will take fewer ratings to move a star of a new user with only a small number where as it will take more to move the star of a user with a high number like myself.
One per cent of 135 (your number right now) = 1,35
One per cent of 19220 (my number right now) = 192,20
I have no idea what percentage makes a star budge in either direction but, if it was only 1 per cent, then yours would move with just one positive while mine would need 192
This is why new users' stars go up and down rapidly and us old vets stay put for what seems like forever

sjvg hi yes indeed if you have a ten or even a 9 your earnings will be hight as our rating is figure into the earnings algorhytm each time. this was explained in the questions and answers if you will just read the, one comers here are supposed to read all that information as getting it second hand from well meaning users often get misinformaton to the newcomers so best to ge it from the horse's mouth so to speak.. ten is best 9 is very good,8 is good but less than that is not so good in earnings.thats why we should all be rating one another so our stars can all go up.

As mysd expalined above the higher the rating the better the earnings. But do keep in mind that quality is also a factor. Just because someone is a ten and posts phrases, a sentence and or something unrelated does not mean, they will earn better then someone with an 8.
Quality and positivity is the key here on myLot. Positivity does not mean to lie, pretend and or sugar coat. It means that we must always respond to topics we are truly interested with and can be of help to.
It also means we MUST respect that we cannot change someones opinion, for example just because you like oranges and I don't, does not mean it is okay for you to bash me and say oranges are better and that I am wrong. (this is only an example). Also it is VERY important to learn the DRS guideline because abusing it means your own gets affected too. We must abide by the agree to disagree concept. Besides sometimes if you read a response more then once, it actually can make sense. lol
Which no way else to put it but if you rated someone abusively do expect your own to be affected, it is how the system I am sure is developed. It is not a voting tool, one should not say, because I dislike that person everything they say should be neg rated, doing so can cause an account to be lost as well.
Just added the extra as you are still at 184 and there is a lot of room for up of the star, once you have thousands it can take much longer.

I must remember the bit about the oranges too!

HI mysd
There is not a day here on myLot that I personally do not learn something new, in fact I like each day more and more, simply because I am always eager to see, hear and think about new happenings.
The only time it will be too late will be when either one one croaks and erm gone.

Hi HWG well said.
I agree to HWG one should not abuse another in a public discussion it looks bad as everyone watches you and make mockery of yours.
i remember the saying'to err is human to forgive divine' and i always tried to stick on this line there are rare incidents when i got provoked by someone so easily.
Regarding rating its decision of fellow MYLOTTERS i cannot do nothing with it.

Hello my friend, welcome to mylot... your question is very interested frankly only now I hear about that our rating is affected, as other said and comments it is affected... thank you very much, eventhough I read the FAQ long time ago only now I read it clearly through your discussion. see you around

yes sjvg it does effect our earning and it rightly should effect the earning as i think because if every one earns the same whether they post quality or bad then what's the point of having a rating system
as you are still at 173 you can easily get to a good rating all you need to do is post decently
whenever you take part in discussion or start one try to interact with other mylotters and it would help you in the long run here

i saw the discussion where you had an argument with a fellow mylotter, i think you where a little rude there
but i also noticed in many other discussion you where good
but anyhow you can always change
having a argument is always better as we can help each other but we should always talk decently to others

You have gotten a very good answer here. And an explanation of percentages as well. At this point you can improve your rating rather quickly, with positive and quality posts. I hope you are enjoying your time at Mylot.
