Are you a listener or an adviser?

Hi guys! I guess everybody here has a friend. The question is, what would you do if your friend came to you and shared his/her problem? Will you just listen or advise? There are times that is is best to just listen because that's just what they want you to do, but sometimes we are obliged to advise since we are a friend. Others would want you to become their adviser, but not everybody can give good advises, that's the disadvantage. The important thing is to be sensitive to your friend's needs when she confides to you. For me , I think I'm more a listener but if needed to advise then I'll do the best I can to give a good one.
How about you?

I would be sensitive to what my friend needs. You're right, there are times that all they need is someone to lend an ear, and not tell them what to do. I only have a few close friends and I am both a listener and adviser. I share my suggestions and opinions on things that I know I can help with. But, if there's nothing I can say or tell them, that would make things better, I'd just be there for them.

I am both a listner and an adviser. When some friend of mine comes up to me with a proble, i would listen to their problem first and later advice them about how to solve. Sometimes people dont want to solve their problem, they make up excuses that they just want it to stay there, not solve it. Thats just because of the fear that they cannot solve or that they cant solve it.
Its necessary in my opinion that people must be good listeners as well as advisers.

Hi eljayo,
Most times, I'm a listener. I seldom give out unsolicited advise. I only do when asked directly or I feel I need to do it. Even in simple conversations, I prefer to listen rather than be the talker . I'm not sure why but it's just my personality .
Have a nice day!

i am both. i listen and give advice when needed. based on experience, people come to you and tell you their problems because they need comfort. yes, listening may be comforting but i think it is best to say something to make your friend feel better too.

I think I am both a listener and an adviser but I'm more along of the lines of an adviser because I like to give people friendly and worthy advise especially if they are stuck in the middle of something or they really don't know what to do. I just think that sometimes people need that one friend where someone can just talk to but not just to listen to also help them with advice.
