Why do they do this?

It's memorial day weekend here in the US, a day when we are supposed to honor and remember our war veterans. Usually on this weekend there are two cable channels, AMC and Turner Classic, that run war or military based movies to honor our veterans. What gets me though, is every year one of the channels, this year it was Turner, slips in a movie about British soldiers. Nothing against the Brits, but how does showing a movie about British soldiers honor American veterans? Of course there's other cable programming that doesn't make sense to me, like the SyFy channel running professional wrestling. What has that got to do with scifi unless you count the wrestling as fiction and the steroid use as science? Then again, I'm not big on mutant bugs as science fiction. Then there's the history channel. What do shows like Pawn Stars or Pickers have to do with history?

I don't get the SyFy channel, never have, so I am not familiar with their programming. I do know that an independent broadcast channel in my area has started running Stargate: Universe, a SyFy channel program, and it is very good. So now I hear that SyFy has canceled it apparently after only two seasons. I am not happy about that, especially if they are showing wrestling.

SyFy bumped SGU from its Friday timeslot to make room for wrestling. They put it on late Monday or Tuesday nights where the show got lost for viewers. I was jsut getting into the show and ws recording episodes on a DVR. I had 3 or 4 episoes to go when I accidently saw the last half of the last show when it was broadcast. I was disappointed enough with the way the show ended that I erased the episodes.

You have asked a question that has been on my mind forever. Who decides to program some of the lousy stuff, crazy stuff or just plain illogical stuff that finds its way onto cable channels? Your two big examples wrestling on Syfy and Pawnstars on the History channel make absolutely no sense at all to me. I could understand Discovery or Learning Channel but History!?!?!
