Have you ever learned a foreign language?
English is my foreign language. And I think it is really hard to master a foreign language, especially when its complicated cultural background is concerned.
There are people telling me industry is the key to master enligh. Some tell me passion and interest is the most important. What's your opinion? Share with us your language learning experience.

Passion and interest couple with cultural background. No matter how passionate you are in learning the language but then you're exposed to a totally different culture, where you cannot hear the language nor even have the opportunity to use in a day to day basis, then mastery of that language would take longer time than expected.
If I learn the Japanese language for example but then I don't have any opportunity to use it in my daily activity and people might laugh at me for using this foreign language in my own country, then it would be quite hard to master it in my own homeland. But take me to Japan. Let me learn the language, but of course I have to be interested in it, and I am expose to their ways and culture everyday for a couple of months. It won't take long before I can master it.

My foreign/second language is English. It wasn't really hard for me to learn since when I came to the United States I was young. Everyone spoke English at school which was a great advantage for me. I clearly haven't mastered English, but I'm glad I learned fast and I'm also glad I learned because of my commitment and my desire to learn.
