Nuclear plant for countries on Equator? What would you think?

Hi mylotters, I have been writing this before my country, Malaysia has started the first proposal to set up a nuclear plant. I believe that Malaysia will be the first country from the equator to have nuclear plants in the future. Anyway, I just can't accept the facts they want to deploy a nuclear plant. First of all, Malaysia is a tropical country where sunlight is abundant for solar energy and water dams for hydroelectric power. Why don't they research on solar technology? Besides, Malaysia's nuclear knowledges and skills are still far behind Japan's and America's. What would you think if the nuclear crisis (like Japan's one) happens right here? I only think every of us will die. What's your opinion for nuclear plants on Equator?
