i phoned the vet and told her that suki is no longer taking her oral medication and she is vomiting everything that she takes orally. i expressed my fear that she might get dehydrated if she remains this way and not eating and drinking anymore. she told me her suspicion that she might be suffering from canine distemper and that she must see her to put her on dextrose and give her appropriate care.
it was suki's second trip to the vet with my parents. the doctor did place her on IV fluids, gave her shots and returned back home. when i phoned back the doctor she said she has the viral infection and her temperature was down.
the good thing with viral infections is that it is self-limiting. the worst thing is that suki's body might not be able to handle it until the infection is gone. :(
she has drastically lost weight, she does not have the energy to move, she just lies there but still able to shift her body from side to side, she can barely stand, i can now feel her bones when i touch her but she is still sharp. her eyes would respond when i would call her name.
i do hope she will fight.. it is all up to her immune system now and the meds that we are giving her to alleviate her condition.
my father is checking on her and even lets her sleep in his room so that he can check on her at dawn.. we are all hoping that she can go through this.
:(

Oh, what a terrible news! Distemper is not easy to heal, you know? I had a friend that lost his dog because she had distemper. With all the treatment she had, nothing could be done to save her life.
I'm sorry that your dog has this terrible disease. Didn't she have the immunizations up to date? Because, I'm sure you know, this disease can be kept away with proper immunizations.
