I was thinking one day regarding how to address a very cool friend of mine but never thought of any that would sound cool at all. But then while I was looking at the wall I thought of a name that would most likely suit this cool friend of mine, Fly plywood! Fly for his coolness and plywood because he is brown in color and does not really use that much moisturizer so his skin is really dry making it look more of the texture of the wood thus Fly plywood name is born. Any unique nicknames that you have thought of that you’ve given your friends?

I never call my friends names of my own liking. It's because my friends might get offended, because i get offended too when somebody calls me by a name , other than my name.

I've never really been one to give nicknames to my friends and I've also never been the person that has had nicknames that were given to me by my friends. However, when my husband was younger, he was in a group that had a lot of nicknames. This past weekend we spent some time with a friend of his from college and it was funny to hear them talking about people that they used to know because everyone was referred to by a nickname of some sort.

I would never give nicknames to friends of mine nor i would allow them to give me one, unless they are very close friends and family members. Giving me a nickname which i don't normally like is an intrusion of my privacy. That intrusion is only allowed by my bf and family members. Besides, not everybody likes nicknames. Whatever sounds true and fun, might not sit well with the actual person, supposedly to own it.

I dont think calling people names, even the closest friends - sounds proper. They are not cats or dogs that you found in some abandoned lot without a name. They already have one. And even if they are ok with it, have you asked if they liked the name you have chosen for them? Arent you worried you may offend them which is almost likely will happen? Just because they dont complain when you start to call them a strange name, doesnt mean they are not offended. Oftentimes they just tolerate it for the sake of your friendship, but deep within they have resentment.

hi freymind, you have a creative mind for your friend:) i like your idea:) but personally, i never gave any of my friend a unique nickname other than their original-name-generated nickname. for example: Dave for David, Chris for Christian, Cathy for Catherine, etc. maybe my bad past experience with bad labeling has prevented me from giving other friends unique nicknames. i used to get some labels which were very not nice to hear that i even want to forget them. so, i never want to do similar things for other friends, although by giving them nice nickname like Fly Plywood. but i really like your cool idea about giving friends cool unique nicknames. as long as it is a nice and positive nickname, i will agree:)
