I tried before some time to win a project on getfreelancer. Here is too much
competition. For a article of 1 $ more than 50 bidders was in Q. So to get a project on this site is a chalanging job. If you want a site on which you can post article much easily than these sites, PM me.

The 'Big Four' freelance sites are all very similar - Elance, oDesk, Guru and Freelancer (which used to be GAF - GetAFreelancer).
Your most important attributes on these sites are patience and being stubborn. You're not very likely to land a job in the first month: you have to stick with it and keep applying for things you can do.
I wrote a '10 tips' thing on my blog ages ago for Elance (though it applies to them all) which might help. Let me find a URL.... http://scrawlbug.com/2009/06/13/10-tips-for-elance-success/
When you're bidding, the important thing to remember is that the price is NOT always the most important factor. Your experience, enthusiasm and skills count for a lot. There's another post on my blog called "Through the looking glass" with the hiring experience the other way round (me hiring, not bidding) that also has some thoughts to consider.
There are loads of sites out there with great advice - a lot of which you can also find on MyLot if you search discussions.
Oh and one other thing: NEVER USE A TEMPLATE BID. Everyone hates them.
